Craftsman 176 piece socket set thoughts

I dont see the point in the double detents, I would prefer single. not a deal breaker. Cman sockets are great for the money, cant beat a life warranty, even if Sears shuts it's doors you can still waranty through Craftsman.

Precision screwdrivers. Prefer 1-piece or removable bits?

It doesnt really matter that much imo. I like both, but if im at a desk/ home use I like a all in one. Here is this one that looks nice, only $24 and has torx etc. It's 16 piece so I think it;s cheaper than buying a 16 piece solid set. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002PJ3IYE/?tag=atomicindus08-20

    Must have knipex for mechanic?

When you are ready for locking pliers/ vise grips, check out Grip-on. Get the orange 10" to start out with.

Is the HF 3/8 breaker bar any good?

I use long handled ratchets with lifetime warranties or a cordless impact instead of breakers these days. I have no problem beating the hell out of my matco ratchets.

    Fair price?

Yeah its up to you. I wouldn't pay anything for it. I don't like my tools left out in the open to get stolen or dusty.

Looking for a tool chest with a tool set.

The 26" is a very good option too. Lots of thin drawers and it will offer way more storage than any HF cart. I prefer the HF 44" because of the counter top space, mount a buffing wheel or a small vice to the top etc.

Paint / Filler Thickness Gauges, What Do You Use?

Tapping is an annoying way to detect, but it works, gives false positives often. I am interested in a answer though, wouldnt want to spend $1k though.

Go to HF for boxes, they have a cart for $170 and a 44" box for $380. Really good values.

Super-Exciting News for SK Day!! 9/23 and 9/24

Schurkey, 6 point wrenches dont work that great because they can be a PITA to get to slip over the bolt. 6 point on a socket + ratchet is fine, because of the clicking, you can rotate it to fit. Wrenches are fixed. If you love 6 point wrenches thats fine, but most people like me hate them and...

    Knipex Cobras -VS- Irwin Groovelocks

For getting a broken fastener off I sometimes use some locking pliers, Grip-on 10", I feel like I can clamp down with a ton of force. I dont own these Knipex cobras yet, but would they do a better job for small nuts and bolts? Or are the Knipex Cobras more suited towards plumbing type work? I am...
