    Knipex at Mobile Distributor Supply

My order got refunded (Credit Memo) as well. Oh well. I don't totally understand the anger in this thread---if I have a shot at Knipex for 75% off, a little less customer service is OK by me---it looks like a small business and they probably got completely swamped & overwhelmed when the link...

    7018 Rod Storage

Master weldor who taught me used to put our old 7018 in our (kitchen) oven for an hour or so while we prepped everything else. He was also careful to store it in an airtight box and keep it dry. Not sure what difference it made, but he was extremely experienced at welding critical work.

    Knipex at Mobile Distributor Supply

The website updates what is available only every few hours, whereas the cart shows availability in real time. Stuff that has the 'Add to cart' button, but then shows out of stock when you try to add it, is the stuff that just sold out in the last few hours.

    Knipex at Mobile Distributor Supply

I found this on my own last night, made up a big cart, and decided to wait until morning as their "sign up and save an additional 10%" coupon was taking too long to show up in my email. Nearly everything was sold out when I logged back in to purchase it today. I hate you all. Still got a...

Crest Ultrasonic Cleaner shorted out --- help!

Good call---thanks. I do this before actually using it, but didn't think to do it before foil testing.

Crest Ultrasonic Cleaner shorted out --- help!

So here's a puzzle---I installed the replacement timer, made sure the transducer near the tank leak was cleaned up, temporarily sealed the tank leak with waterproof tape, and tried a 45sec Alum Foil Test. This machine has 3 transducers--- on the foil, you can see that two are very strong, but...

Battery charger help needed (AA,AAA,18650 etc)

On photography/videography forums (where people use a ton of AA's and need every ounce of power/longevity), many people like a Maha 808 or similar. When you buy batteries, you will want Ikea Ladda's. They are identical to EneloopPro's (same mfg plant same spec different sticker and very...

Crest Ultrasonic Cleaner shorted out --- help!

Interesting. I was just wondering about trying epoxy---I've seen a 2-part epoxy putty product used to fix boats and fuel tanks below the waterline/fuel level (it's solvent resistant): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000BRQ0TW/?tag=atomicindus08-20 It looks like the wires are attached to the bottom...

Crest Ultrasonic Cleaner shorted out --- help!

Update: UGGGGHH---Found the problem---there's a tiny pinhole through the tank near the arc'ing transducer (it's tiny, but the flashlight on the other side + bad camera focus make it look big). Someone maybe let the workpiece touch the tank there at some point. What are the options? can it be...

Electrolysis Tank in Maryland - Rebuild a Vise

Evaporust works fine diluted *a lot*. I'm right now using 1qt evaporust in 3 gallons of water to de-rust a super crusty 3' long wrench. It will work slower as you dilute it more, but it works just as well. The reason is that it's a chelant---not an acid. Basically by diluting it, you just slow...

Crest Ultrasonic Cleaner shorted out --- help!

Update: I have ultrasonic and heat when I bypass the timer switch! Unfortunately I found 2 additional issues: 1) When I bypass the timer it runs, but I see a spark/arc when I turn it on that spans the two poles of the transducer closest to the drain pipe (this machine has 3 transducers). I...

Crest Ultrasonic Cleaner shorted out --- help!

^^ Clever idea! I'm standing right next to some punches I use to punch drive screw holes in vinyl decals for replacing machine nameplates, but it didn't occur to me to use them to get access to the screw heads. Crest's warranty is just 2 years and their repair facility is on the opposite coast.

Crest Ultrasonic Cleaner shorted out --- help!

Update 2: Pretty sure it's the Diehl 600 timer component---I disconnected the board & ultrasonics, and it still shorted out (arc/flames on the timer unit). I found a replacement online. But Does anyone know how to remove it? The knob came off so it's only attached by two screws, but the screw...

Ideas for motorizing the lift mechanism on a radial arm saw

I personally would not permanently affix a motor to raise/lower your saw. If somehow it activates while you are cutting, that would result in a very dangerous situation. If you need a power option, affix a socket or bolt to your crank's shaft and add a hanger for a drill/impact right next to it...

Crest Ultrasonic Cleaner shorted out --- help!

Update: The power cord alone works fine when disconnected, and the heater/light/temp knob also work fine when I disconnect the ultrasonic/timer. When I reconnected the ultrasonic Timer knob, I saw a nice arc/bit of smoke in the large black Timer component attached behind the ultrasonic Timer...

Crest Ultrasonic Cleaner shorted out --- help!

I have a Crest 575HTA 1.5gal heated ultrasonic cleaner. Today I made sure the heater & ultrasonic were both off and the tank was full of water. I plugged it in, got a saw a nice spark at the power outlet, and tripped my 20A circuit breaker 😭. It has tripped my breaker and/or GFCI a few...

Ultrasonic cleaner tips and fluids for various purposes?

White Spirit/Mineral Spirit is highly flammable, which means you should never put it in your ultrasonic as it can ignite. Some shops still do it, but they put the tools in a sealed jar or bag and put that into the ultrasonic cleaner (read up on best practices before doing this). Evaporust is...
