What did you do "IN" your garage today?

In the garage today? Chased my f*cking tail working on a 1967 John Deere 350 Straight dozer. I bought it about 2 weeks ago and it dies after running a few minuted and then it typically starts back up. These tractors are know for injection pump issues. The governor flex ring disintegrates and...

    Above 1200 Sq/FT 86's 20HP shop

When I was stationed in Korea I did some shopping for used tools and found nothing of interest. Edit - here's the thread I posted back in 2014. https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/threads/searching-for-tools-and-deals-in-korea.249740/ What's weird is they hate older cars, too -- driving an...

Air Compressor for the Shop - New or Used, 40/60/80 Gallon?

Ok, it's in and hard wired. When I started it, it had a substantial air leak at the fitting for the drain. It was barely screwed in and didn't have any teflon tape on it. Got it snugged up with some tape and seems to seal fine. Still need to set up my water trap, filter, hose, etc.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Parts and tools continue to multiply so I assembled a new 3' x 5' x 10' shelf unit at the shop.

Connecting to Power - Single Phase 230v 5 hp Air Compressor - Ingersoll Rand

Gotcha. It's 5 hp. The shop is wired for 3 phase, but the third leg has not been energized yet, if that makes sense. The electrician said he needs to add one more component before it's live. Agreed. Is there a simple way to address this? Thanks

    Above 1200 Sq/FT 86's 20HP shop

Bummer. But at least you'll rack up a lot of frequent flier miles. When I was stationed in Hawaii and traveling for work a lot, I earned enough miles to take a few free trips.

Connecting to Power - Single Phase 230v 5 hp Air Compressor - Ingersoll Rand

Went to the shop. Here's the label on the motor. Looks like 19 amps but with a max of 22.5 amps, right? 30A breaker and #10 AWG sufficient for this? Here's a current shot of the panel. There's 10 gauge solid core wire at the junction box next to the compressor. At the panel...

Connecting to Power - Single Phase 230v 5 hp Air Compressor - Ingersoll Rand

Panel is about 30' from the compressor and within eyesight, so I'm ok if I don't need the disconnect. thanks

I'll get a picture of the motor nameplate when I confirm wire size. Gotcha on the disconnect.

Air Compressor for the Shop - New or Used, 40/60/80 Gallon?

Delivered today and it's in place. It actually came with concrete anchors and insulators so I could bolt it in place, but I think I'll just use the pads that I sourced for it. As for wiring it, the box to the right of the pump has 240 on a pair of 30A breakers. I think I'd like to put an...

Pressure Washer Pump Protector - Anyone Use It?

I have a Harbor Freight gas pressure washer at the shop and an electric pressure washer at home. My gas powered unit gets started and hooked up to water every 90 days. It starts easily, but it usually takes a minute or two of running before it starts pressurizing water and actually operating...

A Savage Inventory of the Tools That Actually Matter

I ordered the Bouton safety glasses; I'll get my prescription lenses inserted. Some of my MVP's - -Milwaukee M18 blower. Compact and powerful and vastly preferred over a broom for a quick shop cleanup. -On that note, pretty much any Milwaukee M12 or M18 tool, but especially angle grinders...

Air Compressor for the Shop - New or Used, 40/60/80 Gallon?

I thought about that, but the 3d leg of my 3 phase isn't hooked up yet and I've already got a 240v outlet where this one will be parked.

Just ordered it; should be delivered by Wednesday. Tractor Supply is only a few miles from my shop, so delivery was only $50.
