    WX4SNO's Garage Build

Thanks for the suggestions! I am planning on putting in a mini-split in the future. I will be running electrical to the outside wall on the back of the garage and installing a disconnect switch and power outlet which I can tie into later when I put in the outdoor unit. My house is cooled and...

    WX4SNO's Garage Build

This is how our property looked a few weeks ago before I hired an excavator to clean and level it off: The guy finally got up there around the 2nd of November and started work. He finally finished up last week on Thursday...I'll have to post an updated photo of the work. He put...

    WX4SNO's Garage Build

Alright, here we go. I've built a few garages for friends and family over the past couple years and after finishing one a couple months ago, I finally decided to start planning for my own! I've seen so many posts on here and other forums, and heard many mention that they wished they would have...

    What would you change?

Lots of good ideas! I don't plan on putting in a lift attm, but am planning on having a 16" tall concrete block knee wall, then sill plate, and then the 2x4 walls on top of that. Height will be around 9.5 ft from floor to ceiling along the walls, and then I'll have scissor trusses in the bay...

    What would you change?

I'm in the planning stages for my garage and I'm sure this has come up on other threads here and there, but if you could go back in time (or have made a modification) to make changes to your garage, what would you do differently? I know the obvious answer is going to be make it bigger, but...

Insurance companies not covering wood stoves

Lots to think about here, but I'm still going to go ahead with a wood stove in the garage. I had already planned on having it sit up high since the legs on the Vogelzang Durango are so short. But I'll probably build a riser from concrete or brick to step it up a couple times something similar...

Insurance companies not covering wood stoves

Thanks folks. I don't know what the inspector was trying to say about it being a code issue. If I get a chance I'll ask her to clarify what she meant...but I figured that if my insurance company doesn't want to insure it...I'll just find a new company that does!

Insurance companies not covering wood stoves

Has there been a change in residential codes recently about not allowing wood stoves in garages? I went Tuesday on election day and put in for my garage permit. The county inspector called me back yesterday and said that there is a new code about wood stoves and that most insurance companies...

Greetings from the Blue Ridge Mountains!

Hello fellow enthusiasts! I have been a long-time lurker to these forums for a while now, and finally figured I should create my own profile and start posting! I'm currently living in the great high country of southern Virginia in a little town called Snowville...it's such a small...
