To impact gun or not to inpact gun ???

Also the torque from an impact is applied equally around the diameter of the bolt/nut. A breaker bar usually applies more torque to one side of the fastener if not kept completely square. It helps not to try and spin the fastener off too quickly. Back off a few turns, apply penetrating oil...

    The Mechanically Declined.....

My son’s first car was a 1986 Lincoln Town Car. Shortly after he purchased the car he came to me and asked if I would be able to install a power amp and sub-woofer for him. I told him that I was busy but that I would get to it when I could. I came home one night to see him and several friends...

    Can anybody ID this wheel?

Looks aftermarket. The oblong washers are typical of the multi fit wheels of the 70's by aftermarket companies back then.

    Tie Rod Removal Tool

If you're speaking of the tool to separate the tie rod end from the knuckle I've always loosened the nut and hit the knuckle with a BFH. It distorts the tapered opening momentarily and allows the stud to drop down. This works on ball joints and drag and center links also. To remove the...

    Ceiling Height for lifts?

Look at the photo below. The ceiling height of the low side of my garage is 11 feet. You can see that my Expedition on my lift extends well past the 11 foot section. The side of my garage where my lift is located is un-obstructed to the peak which is approximately 18 feet.

    Hand Impact Drivers

Wesley: BFHammer Seriously select the correct bit, set the driver for right hand or left hand thread and smack the back of the tool with a hammer while keeping pressure on the fastener with the other hand. Once it breaks loose use a screw driver or what ever to back out the fastener.

    The Harbor Freight PASS/FAIL Thread...

Over the weekend I bought the aluminum racing jack style motorcycle jack from HF. Got it home and opened the box only to find one of the wheels broken off of the front support bar. The bar is threaded on each end for the wheels to fasten to. It looked as if they may have torqued the wheel nut...

What was your first tool set?

    W. G. Grants 1/2 socket set for Christmas in 1968. Had a ratchet and breaker bar with soft rubber handles and shallow sockets from 7/16 through 1". Bent the breaker bar and the ratchet checked out years ago but some of the sockets still remain usable.

    Pass-through garage

I had my garage designed that way. The bay closest to the house has an overheard door at the rear. I have a portable garage out back with my boss in it and only three feet between garage and fence.
