Good to know. Im thinking I will proceed by adding ceiling + insulation, left to right, as I get time to do such, understanding that I wont get much benefit until the whole ceiling is done. Thanks! Alex

I thought that folks were using plastic more for the fact it keeps the attic air out of the floor space air as opposed to using it for its R value. thanks, Alex

Currently I have an un-insulated 30x50 shop with an open ceiling/attic. At some point I plan to add a ridge vent and soffit vents, and put in a ceiling and attic insulation. The hot summer is approaching and I think I am going to run out of time and not get it all done this season. I read on...

Amalik did you end up going through with this? The reason I ask is my attic is in a very similar state and I wonder how effective this turned out to be, especially now that it's getting cold. Thanks, Alex

So are they used in place of J bolts?

My best guess is that it was built right after the house, so probably early 1980's. I dug through some permit history but haven't found it yet. I haven't thought about the fact that maybe the sill existed somewhere else first but that seems plausible. There is a coat of concrete type stuff...

My thoughts exactly... I don't really want my shop blowing away like its in the wizard of oz.

A previous owner of my shop went around and removed all of these ties (except they partially left the one shown). I have no idea why unless it was to hang the plywood walls and they found the ties to be in the way. Maybe they aren't needed? Is this a problem? If so how can I effectively fix...

Also I should have added I had the same school of thought... no sense in spending hundreds of dollars with the uncertainty that the sensor will hold up.

I went to Lowe's and bought their motion fixture and LED flood lights about two months ago (both Utilitech brand). So far, they are holding up nicely. I bought this specifically for our dog to have light at night, sometimes it seems the motion sensor wont activate when he is right under it...
