electric motor needing to be spun up by hand before it runs on it's own

I have a 1953(ish) Packard electric motor that is the same way. Needs a little nudge to get going. Mine is on a drill press, to my surprise the motor will run in either direction depending on which way I spin the chuck. I opened it up and the wiring insulation more or less turned to dust...

    Lighting plan for 28x28....opinions?

Only 1050 lumen per fixture. Ceiling is 9'-1/2" 110° beam. I decided to order 4 more High bay that I will put on 9' tripods and use them as auxiliary work lights. Cans lights look fancy, but aren't practical.

    Lighting plan for 28x28....opinions?

I have that 150w with diffuser light that I use as an additional overhead work light in one garage bay. I mounted this Hyperlite on a trolley that runs in a strut/track along the garage door opener track. This allows me to slide it overhead where I need it. It's 9'-1/2" from the floor. I have...

    Best garage door opener lubrication?

I was told by our Tri-State Door distributor the best thing is an oil can and motor oil. I bought a quart of some synthetic motor oil. I have 5 doors and still haven't went through the quart and it has been years! I spray every spring and winter when the time changes. Makes it easy to remember...

    Who has a 30 x 60 shop - Thirty by sixty?

I would go 40 foot deep. My 30 x 60 is two narrow to fit two vehicles end to end on the 30' side. My garage doors are on the 60' side, one 16×9 and two 9x9's. Pictures from 2015 above. Looks much different inside now but the bones are the same.

Floor sweeper attachment for shop vac?

I've been using an old upright. I vacuum steel shaving, wood shaving, plaster dust anything that's not wet. Just switch bags once it's full. This vacuum was retired from house duty, and has been sweep my shops concrete floor for at least 10 years. Granted I broom the big stuff so it doesn't get...

    Troubleshooting garage door

What your describing is exactly what miss aligned sensors do. I'd double check them, make sure you have a solid green light on both.

    Between 485 & 705 SQ/FT Hello From NE PA

That corrugated roofing will do a nice job reflecting light. I hate trying to work in a dark garage.. The older you get, the dimmer everything looks.

Garage door - trolley loose - rattling - pusher springs?

"The installer" Is this a new installation? If so it is common to have the torsion spring settle and lose some tension. You can also check your belt tension and if its out of spec adjust the nut on the idler to tighten/loosen. When you unlock the trolley assembly and raise and close the door...

Garage door goes up crooked after multiple openings

I will guarantee you the drum is moving. If it wasn't moving your door would be wedged in the track sideways (until the open force threshold on the opener stops it) and the cable would be loose and hanging. That's a mess to deal with. Marking the drums and torsion rod will only make you go up...

Garage door goes up crooked after multiple openings

Do at your own risk but I've had the same situation. The problem isn't with the springs. You said you tightened them evenly so thats good. The cables are in the proper groove in the drums. Most likely the cable drum has slipped on the torsion rod allowing that side of the garage door to hang...

I have a WPPO Ash Vacuum (cordered). I bought the vacuum for my smoker and my fireplace. Don't waste your time or money. First use in the fire place AFTER I shoveled it, filter clogged within a minute. Took it outside cleaned the filter and finished the fireplace. They absolutely do not create...
