    Best time to buy Craftsman

I picked up TWO 14h X 17w X 18d brand new, laminate-covered cabinets with doors at a lawn sale for $5.00 each. I have also, in the past, picked up approximately 12 linear feet of steel kitchen wall cabinets for nothing, zeero, zip, nada!

    Sheetrock ceiling help.

I, too, wanted to enclose the ceiling in my small (22 x 24) shop, yet retain access to the stuff I had stored on the rafters. I spent a grand total of $50 for enough 2x4 acoustical tiles to cover the ceiling. I then spent $10 for a stack of mixed 90°, 3/4" moldings which I am attaching even...

How do you control the mice??

If you are talking about D-Con, it really isn't a poison.....it's warfarin, a blood thinner. I posed the question to my dog's vet, and he told me the dog chewing on a mouse killed with D-Con is in no danger whatsoever.....the percentage of blood thinner he might ingest is insignificant...

Warning: Tools May Be Smaller Than You Think They Are

In 40+ years of working on cars, I have never poked a hole in ANY customer's upholstery. I carry screwdrivers in my side pocket with the tip pointed down.

Snap-on Drawer Liners - Who Makes Them?

This stuff looks like the same stuff my Snap-On dealer lined the drawers with on my brand new three-piece unit.......in 1973!!! It's still in place. Stuff has held up well in the drawers, but the most telling piece is the piece between the rollaway and the mid section. About three or four...

    Garage Cabinets

My workbench is a former lunch counter - with a double 3/4" plywood top - that I paid $5.00 for. I have old metal kitchen cabinets hanging over it that I paid nothing for. I made the mistake of telling the guy what I was going to use them for, and he decided to keep the base cabinets for his...

    Formula SAE

www.fsae.com is probably the best place for up-to-date info on FSAE cars. They've even formed a consortium that has the various tires used in FSAE competition tested at the Calspan facility in Buffalo, N.Y. It is "THE PLACE" for FSAE info.

How to ID old SO tool cabinet/chest

On my own Snap-On setup that I bought new in the mid-70s, the model numbers are stamped in one of the corners on the back panels of each unit.

What a mess time to clean up you think

Just curious..... ...in the second picture, there are several thin-drawer cabinets. (Blueprint/map files?) What sorts of things are you able to use these cabinets for? I just missed two FREE blueprint cabinets, but then I started to wonder exactly what I might be able to use them for. I also...

Snapped off a bolt head today

????? The end of the bolt will STILL be in the water jacket behind the thermostat mount. It's a little late now, but I might have tried to heat the end of the bolt inside the water jacket with a small welding tip while trying to work it out. Welding a washer/nut onto the end of the bolt is...

Snapped off a bolt head today

If the threads of a 3/8" diameter bolt are rusted/corroded enough to break the full-diameter bolt while attempting to remove it, a 1/4" diameter "extractor"/"easy-out", by itself, is NOT the answer. As a matter of fact, I'll take odds on the hardened, brittle "extractor" breaking in the hole...

    Machinery Handbook (AKA Bible)

Some of the older versions are said to have MORE useable information for home-shoppers....basic information on setups, mathematical formulae, etc. that has been deleted in later versions to make room for more modern stuff such as CNC, etc. I have a 25th edition that I bought new for $75.00...

Oil or lube for old ratchets?

One Snap-On guy once used Lubriplate white grease when he replaced the innards of a ratchet for me. My father used to use the same thing in his Penn salt-water fishing reels. He told me it was the "factory recommendation." I've used Lubriplate ever since in ALL my ratchets. BTW - Most of...

looking for sheet metal bending pliers...

The "Big Box" stores also have a set of pliers - usually in the roofing area - that have diffferent sized - up to about 12" - replacement jaws available. Many of the metalworkers I know, also keep a set of glass pliers handy for tight areas.

    PAR-X UR70 Ratchet

You've pretty much covered what I know about Par-X. I never bought any more after the one deal, and they were a secondary set for the race track toolbox. Par-X was the less expensive Snappy line, and IIRC it DID carry a lifetime guarantee. Not aware of any catalog. The Snap-On guy would...

    PAR-X UR70 Ratchet

I bought a complete Par-X set - 1/2", 3/8", and 1/4" drive ratchets and sockets and combination wrench set - from my Snap-On dealer in the late '60s for $75.00. The 1/2" ratchet is a UR-71 - the same as above. It was something he had re-posessed. I still have them and keep them in the house...

Ever seen one of these flaring tools????

You DO understand that this is a tool for making 37° flares for use with JIC fittings???? It is NOT the "standard" 45° flaring tool used to make flares for automotive applications. I use a 37° flaring tool - not this particular one - on some of the race cars I build, but I use the "standard"...
