I made an unscheduled stop at a TOO last Saturday on my way to do some weed spraying on a remote property. A garage sale with nothing interesting. I did look closer at a coffee cup full of cheap screwdrivers when I spotted a wooden handle. A brass ferrule made me look closer. For 50 cents...

The Vintage New Britain and Associated Thread!

This NDF-514 wrench was displayed in a group of more modern wrenches at the local flea market Sunday. I put it in the pile and the asking price for the group I had selected was quite reasonable. This is the "Nut Master" design, which isn't quite ratcheting, but grips better than the...

My wife and I spent two weeks visiting my daughter in Japan mid-April, so I've been out of touch, then catching up on everyday things. Nice to see you people have been finding such nice stuff! I finally got to an estate sale the first of May in a small town up in the hills. I'm assuming...

    Model T tools

The Jeep tire pump hose is quite long. Longer than one would expect for a vehicle with fairly small tires. The Ordinance Department supplied these pumps. Perhaps they standardized the hose length so they could be used on harder-to-reach applications, like dual wheels on larger trucks? The...

What pliers does everyone use for connecting side plate connecting links?

Channellocks, but I have found that Knipex Cobras have a little better geometry. I don't do this often, so I've never really tried other options.

1/2" square is the size of Ford truck mechanical brake adjusters from 1928-1938 model years. I see Ebay listings that claim these wrenches are for "Tool Post" screws, but don't believe that.

What size is the 8-point opening? Measured for a square nut. The part number follows early Caterpillar, but nothing shows up in a search. (number-letter-number-number-number) later on they added another number just after the letter, so 4Y187 became 4Y0187.

Back in the mid-70's I worked for a guy that owned a Pinto station wagon with the fake wood panels. It was a very good car, and held up to a lot of abuse. We called it the "Country Squirt."
