I already carry four things when scrounging: Pocket slide calipers Small Tape Measure Magnifying Glass Tiny Wire Brush The measuring tools are quite useful. The magnifying glass and wire brush often help identify the item as interesting or not. I'm sure to add a light to the list.

Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

In my experience, the P&C N-series DBE wrenches are much beefier than the equivalent commercial sizes. I suspect that anything else in a N-series would be just as stout. I, too, suspect that the N meant Navy.

The VINTAGE toolboxes of Garage Journal!

I stopped by the Restore in the nearby city today. I wandered around and discovered that they had expanded the inventory space to a covered outside area. There I found a large Kennedy "hip roof" toolbox in pretty good shape. Missing the tray. Oops! It wasn't a Kennedy!

I believe that the first saw of that design that I bought was a Sandvik brand. This design has been sold under several brand names. I love it because it is easier to control the cut than traditional designs.

The "drill attachment" is a micrometer-adjustable countersink. They were very common in WWII aircraft factories, and even later. The bits have a pilot for the rivet or flat head screw, and screw into the tool with 1/4" threads.

Chopped! The GJ User Modified Tools Thread

I made this wrench from a cheap 17mm import socket. The handle is made up of sections of a failed Harbor Freight plastic clamp. I cut the steel bar into two pieces and welded them into an "L", and then to the socket. I had to heat up the tail and put a curve in it to clear the chip pan of the...
