100@ generator plug identification & recommendations?

Finally called up Winco & they said they are using the 175@ Anderson plugs on all their PTO generators these days. Dug up some really old scanned hand written info on their site. One of the notes at the bottom was they were going to stop using the single pin plug type (like I have) in 1980 &...

100@ generator plug identification & recommendations?

Finally heard from the solar guys, they have a Hubble HUBWD M4100R12 they are planning on installing at the end of this week or early next week. Looks like a nice 100@ marine grade socket. Hopefully I can find the male (or is that female) side of the connection cheap. Debating weather to use...

    Z-Wave Switches

Oh, and after a bit more thought, I do prefer the Leviton switches over the GE switches. I think I like the single switch toggle better than the on/off functionality of the GEs. Levitons definitely feel more solid & worth the extra $5 per switch or so.

    Z-Wave Switches

That was my first use case for them. Turning on the deck lights also turns on the light switch out at the chicken coop, my shop outside lights switch & the light switch for the lights outside the master bedroom that are pointing towards the shop. Really handy to head out to do chores or what not...

100@ generator plug identification & recommendations?

Probably, but I'd like to have access to all the juice if need be. Couple feet of snow forecast for early next week. If things get ugly & we loose power before I get things sorted out properly I'll just throw the disconnect switch & make a L14-50 to L14-50 suicide cable out of my welders...

100@ generator plug identification & recommendations?

They are cheap, but I'm dubious on the good & shipping from China usually...

100@ generator plug identification & recommendations?

The generator has a gauge on the front, but I believe it's voltage, not frequency. I've found some under $30 frequency & voltage meters for generators, but they are cheap china stuff & likely not weather proof. I could just put a cover over them though I suppose. I may just fold & use the...

100@ generator plug identification & recommendations?

Diesel engines, at least in tractors have a robust governor intrinsically have a very good governor. You set the hand throttle & it will stick really close to the set RPM. And the RPM = Hz, a voltage regulator takes care of proper voltage coming out of the generator. I'm looking for a good cheap...

100@ generator plug identification & recommendations?

My solar power system was just commissioned the other day & as part of the install, I had them install the proper gear for a generator disconnect. So I now have a 400@ disconnect sitting there (225@ service & apparently they only make 200@ & 400@ disconnect boxes). The solar guys haven't put a...

    Tons of dead 4' Tubes

I put in T8's in my shop recently, 8' fixtures with 2 pars of 4' bulbs. Looks great for my 12-14' barn & 8-9' shop. The High output bulbs are just to bright for my low ceilings, but the big fixtures with standard bulbs work well. Modern solid state (not old magnetic) T8 ballasts are as...

    Honda Gen Volts/Hertz question

The speed the generator spins at = Hz. So to get the proper consistent 60hz, your generator should always spin at the same speed, regardless of load. If you see the Hz fluctuating, you might have a bad governor. If it's just consistently off by a certain amount, you might need to adjust the...

    Z-Wave Switches

Sounds like you might have some serious RF reception or interference issues at your place. There should be no problems connecting to a device 20' from the hub unless you are in a Faraday cage or something.

    Z-Wave Switches

Home automation stuff is still in it's infancy. Products aren't that mature in this arena yet, so it's generally a pretty steep learning curve on some not very polished systems. I'd recommend you bring these questions up on the SmartThings forums or appropriate forum for whoever makes your hub...

    Welding outlet (Derating?)

That's why I always go for the flexible option even if it costs more in the short run. ;-) Most RVs only require 30@ but its better to have more capacity than needed than less. Our 17' Casita runs fine on a 15@ circuit unless I'm running A/C, charging a nearly dead battery & doing a lot of...

    Z-Wave Switches

Height won't help a lot unless there are fewer obstructions. Most powered Zwave devices are repeaters. So a light switch part way between the hub & a flaky device should provide a better connection. The devices will pick there peers based on what's nearby when they get added. So add them in...

    Welding outlet (Derating?)

I put in L14-50s in my barn & on my welder. It's what is on most generators. My plasma cutter still has I think it's an L6-30 on it, but I made an adapter to connect it to a L14-50. L14-50 probably is a bit overkill, but I'm fine playing a little extra for the additional few bucks for the extra...

    Z-Wave Switches

Looks like Google just updated the photos of my house a couple months ago while I was doing the trenching... It was 230' basically from the panel next to my SmartThings hub out to the corner of the shop. I marked where the old WeMo switch out in the shop was & where the 2 Zwave ones are now...

    Z-Wave Switches

I have a Z-wave in my chicken coop about 70' line of sight out a window to my hub. I just replaced the 1 Belkin WeMo WiFi switch out my my shop with 3 Z-wave switches. It's about 200' between my office where the SmartThings hub & my WiFi AP are. The WiFi switch barely connected on occasion. The...

    Welding outlet (Derating?)

I wouldn't undersize my welder wiring. If anything I oversize the wire whenever I do any wiring, it's cheap insurance against later requirements. Smaller gauge wire will heat up & cause voltage drop a lot quicker than worse than higher gauge wire. I wouldn't trust whatever welder I have now to...
