What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Re: what did you do in your garage today? Took up the old crappy rug that my dog destroyed from in front of the workbench and replaced it with a 9'x4' section of 1/4" rubber.

    Best Bench Grinder stand?

I bought this one at Tractor Supply. Priced at $49, picked up the floor model (only one left) and got 15% off so really only paid $41. Weighs just at 38lbs, fair quality nothing special. PITA to get it all level.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Re: what did you do in your garage today? On old VWs, the exhaust manifold from the front cylinders had fins on it and a tin shroud over it. When you turned the heat on it opened the flap and allowed the fan forced cooling air to be redirected from the engine cooling to through the exhaust...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Re: what did you do in your garage today? So my wife and I don't have any kids and we have 2 family Christmas's to go to on Christmas day...so we woke up this morning and exchanged our gifts. My garage is not only my workshop but also my "get away" area. So I assembled this Kobalt shop chair...

    Show us your welding projects

I have a question and I think this is a better place to ask it than starting a new thread. I am relatively new to welding and am looking to build a welding/work table. Right now all I have is a Hobart flux wire welder. Is this welder good enough to weld together a welding table? I've...

    Favorite Knife

Kershaw Ken Onion Series. Was called the Bravo Tanto when I bought it, now the Blur. Knife has stayed sharp for 7 years with minimal maintenance. Grip tape like coating does great for wet/oily hands but it does tear up jeans and pants a little bit over time. Knife has yet to let me down.

What's the wierdest thing that's happened in your garage?

We've been in our house about a year and a half but I've had two interesting garage stories; one a mystery, the other made me mad. First the mystery; My buddy and I were laying tile in my kitchen (above and opposite end of the house of my garage) when we hear a REALLY loud crash. We both drop...

Broke down and bought a Crapsman drill press today

Nice buy! Little rust cleanup and some lube and you're good to go. I have a Craftsman bench top unit from the early 90's and it has served me very well. I know the modern Craftsman stuff is very disappointing but the old stuff is still pretty decent quality. You should get years of good...

    Working in the cold?

Depends on how cold we are talking about. I don't mind putting on a coat and some gloves and working in 15-30 degree weather. As long as I keep moving and can guard my face and hands from the wind, I'm fine. Now if it's in the negatives (haven't seen that around here recently) or single...

    Garage ethics question

Prior to my current job I was a service writer for a large dealership and I'd say 75-80% of the time our guys could get the job done in less than or just at book time. Things went wrong and some things took longer, sure, but for every job that took 115% of book time they would do 5 jobs that...

    Let's See Your Garage Dog

This is Miley. My wife and I bought her when we lived in our townhouse and couldn't have a large dog. I was somewhat against a small dog but I've fallen in love with the little booger. She doesn't shed and doesn't bark. She's also small enough that she will walk right up under my truck or...

The un-official Craftsman pro vise thread (becoming one with your vise)

I'm fairly new to the world of vises, but I've got a question. If you look on Sears website this vise is obviously available but there are several Yost (906-HV, 905-AS, 906-AS) and even a Wilton that are all available for maybe $20-$40 more. Would one be better served to pick up one of these...

    What's your workbench look like?

Got rid of the old setup I posted above. The half shelf/kitchen cabinet wasn't cutting it anymore. Now I just need to find a quality vise and I'll be happy...for a few days. Picked this bench up at Sam's club after reading favorable reviews about it on this site.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Re: what did you do in your garage today? I got tired of using an old kitchen cabinet and half a storage shelf as a workbench so I bought a proper workbench and rearranged the garage. The old: The new:

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Re: what did you do in your garage today? Hung some work lights where there previously were none. Also cleaned up the shop some and put some parts and tools away. Nothing major. Mainly just listened to the radio, tinkered, and drank.

    What's your workbench look like?

Looks like this right now. In the process of building a 6'x6' L-shaped wood workbench.

Official what is on your Christmas list thread

I asked for a good shop stool. I'm tired of standing down there after I finish a project but haven't finished my beer. Toolbox to keep in the toolbox on my truck. I currently have the craftsman mechanics set in its case as well as another tool set in its case and they take up too much room...

Harbor Freight engine stand any good?

I had a toyota supra engine on that 750lb stand and I had to stack up cinderblocks and bricks and brace the other end of the motor to keep it still enough to work on. Just on the stand by itself the motor would sway when you touched it and the stand flexed a little bit more than I was...

    The Harbor Freight PASS/FAIL Thread...

8 piece bolstered screwdriver set, pass. I've had these screwdrivers since I was in college and they have never let me down. While I don't get a lot of use out of sliding a wrench over the top that option is always there. Despite years of abuse the tips are still in good shape and the...
