I did a job where it was the same sistuation. During a very cold spell they turned the heat down in the bedroom above the garage. Pipes froze and broke in the bedroom filling the ceilling with water and dropping the drywall on top of there cars. Both cars had alot of damage and took $20k to...
I have used pretty much every construction nailer out there and prefer the Max superframer. Very small and light weight, fits in a 12" void. Great power for working with LVL's.

I am a big fan of the Elk/GAF shingles, get the 110mph wind rating. They also have a new ridge cap thats 3 layers and rated for 110mph, and make sure then install the caps with 2 nails per side
Started on the roof framing this weekend. Framed the gable walls then stood them up. Ridge is 2x12 rafters are 2x10. There will be a 3 pitch dormer on one side.
I did my own excavation due to having friends with equiptment. The walls are 10'6" tall plus the slab is set 6-9" down from there. Send me an email with your info and I will have Scott call ya. Also if you are looking to hire any of it out let me know I will be happy to give you some pricing...
Wayne, The garage is 24x30, 10' 2x6 studs which puts the ceilling height at around 11' +/-. Where in SE MA are ya? Scott from Short Pour foundations did it, he does all my concrete work. I think it was $3800 if I remember correctly.
As far as the town knows "storage". But I think I will store a pool table and 60" tv up there. Its 24x30 with a 10 pitch roof. There will be a shed dormer on the right side.
So after recooping from the site work side of the project its time to start on the framing. I am a contractor and have alot of friends in the field. Called in the troops and a couple favors and in a weekend got the walls up, beam set and 1/2 the floor framed. Check out the progress
