Given it has 1 lock down handle, 4 base hold downs, shape of spindle nose, and split ring what might the original paint color have been? Without cleaning it up yet, could this be from the 1950's? My first Reed so would like to keep with paint color keeping with the theme.

Shiftless, Thank you Sir. Yes the only difference in the base on this one is the window if you will is round vs yours showing the actual teeth of that inner piece. So it makes much more since with your picture. Again, thank you for the quick info while I am out and about today.

Hi Reed experts, Have an opportunity to purchase a Reed 1C? And not familiar with this maker. Vice body looks to be in nice shape but the swivel base seems to be hung up. I have been able to get it to turn, but when flipped over there is a casting with hole and what looks to be some sort of cast...

Help bolting a compressor to the floor.

Looks like your working with a single-stage compressor. Make sure you are pulling the moisture out of the air if using for blast media/ cabinet duties. It will work, but she will be working hard to keep up depending on your duty cycle/ how long your blasting in a given stretch.

    New snap on wrenches

Your money, your tools for now. If she does bust your balls for buying quality, make sure the ring is cubic zirconia. Hey its a diamond, right?

Craftsman 5198. Who made these awesome vises!!

Mine has its original paint. Top of anvil pad is raw metal. See no signs of the anvil pad being painted, but suppose that the first owner could have removed the anvil top pad paint if they wanted. If ever was there in the first place. To me an anvil pad is a work surface. Paint does not belong...

    Gladiator Cabinets - Stains

I have these cabinets with silver fronts and bought an additional cabinet on a Sears floor model clearance since the price was fantastic. There was some adhesive residue from a sales tag or something that showed up after a summer cycle of heat in the garage. Two ideas: GoGone to remove glue...

What's on your walls? Neat storage ideas!

Thanks guys. Pretty happy with how it all turned out. Had the idea for awhile, just had to hunt for all the pieces. The lights are 1920's-30's adjustable lights that adjust forward/aft,side/side, up/down. They were picked from an old machine shop in Milwaukee. When I got them, were layered...

What's on your walls? Neat storage ideas!

Wanted a vintage look vs. traditional pegboard for hanging pipe/adjustable wrenches. Repurposed an old saw blade and battery hold-down hooks. Being heavy and sharp went with a french cleat mounting system. Solid wall stud fastening w/blade connecting securely on first attempt.

    Lets see your workbench

Degrease top, dry and lay a think layer of clear epoxy. Bar top. Keep the bench history-patina, but create a flat, smooth, clear hard surface. If electronics work is clean and the top is not being pounded on with metal/wood building projects, clear epoxy would look killer.

    Lets see your workbench

Thx man. They came out of a 1930's Milwaukee machine shop. They had years of build up dirt and grease. Once degreased, beautiful green paint appeared. Had to leave the original paint on them. What's great the pair is articulating up-down and side-side for lots of work positioning.

Food cutting board=mineral oil and hydrogen peroxide wipe down to kill the bacteria between uses. BLO when soaked in, simply wipe off the excess several times. Wipe until your paper-towel or white rag is not picking much oil off the wood surface. It will dry quicker and tacky-free. In my...

    Lets see your workbench

Thanks Dave. Have a cool Wilton under bench vise, just could not get it to fit properly given my set up and table top size. The Record vice was a perfect size, nice look, and cleaned up nicely given the vice sat in a England barn for most of its life. Regarding vintage legs, look for wood/metal...
