2026 Garage Sale Thread (15th Annual)

@bmwrd0: I’ve seen your trading prowess with most of the members on this thread, so might as well go one more! Hard to deny an overture from a HOF picker and still stay in the GJ club—especially if it’s the last tool you need for the set! I’m out of town for the week, but PM me after that and...

The VINTAGE toolboxes of Garage Journal!

Toward the end of last year, I traded for this antique wooden machinist chest. It is a Model 01C by C.E. Jennings & Company, New York, New York, c. 1904-1912. It is made of chestnut with wire loop drop handles and wood drawer slides. I just started to clean it up a bit, but have yet to replace...

    Show us your handplanes

Not sure what you mean. The plane was designed for a wood handle to be laminated around it and screwed down. It has no screw-down marks, nor evidence that a wood handle was ever applied. I’m keeping it that way.

    Show us your handplanes

Here is my Siegley No. 2 Combination Plane. Based on the type study by David Heckel and descriptions from PTMPA Vol. 1, this would be the Type 3 (1884) one. It has the brass block cutter adjuster with teeth that engage the cutter, advanced/retracted by a capstan “head” with wing nut to clamp...

Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

On a recent pick, I found this Plomb 4800 Midget Set 9/32”-drive box and when I opened it, it had all the original contents shown. My heart started beating hard enough that I had to plan how to exit the pick quickly before anyone heard it!

    Vintage S-K Tools

I finally cleaned up a recent find: 1930's No. 4237 1/2"-drive socket set. It has the #40253 breaker bar, a cross-bar and ten "SK-Chrome" sockets which are all marked with their respective fractional sizes, but no model numbers. The clasp is a little “short”, but otherwise the set is in good...

    Screw starters...

No, nothing. That’s why I was also focusing on the unusual five-sided handle, in case someone recognized its manufacturer.

    Screw starters...

Thanks @Private Lugnutz . Your “intro” to my last post is so good, I may have to intentionally pause the next time I need to repost to see if you’ll get it started for me again! Here is my post and photos from the wood screwdriver’s thread, and Yes, the slot-tip inside the sleeve is...

    Let's show our wood (screwdrivers)

I can’t figure this one out. A couple months ago, I picked up this wood handled 10 1/2" slotted screwdriver with holding sleeve (only marking is a “PAT PENDING”). The wood handle is five-sided and has a comfortable grip pattern (see photos). I have tried Google Lens and AI, but have not...

    Barcalo Buffalo Tools

Recently picked up this script logo Barcaloy combination wrench set in its original canvas bag. I haven’t cleaned the bag yet, but it’s in pretty good condition as it stands.

2025 Garage Sale Thread (14th Annual)

Hunted and picked onesie-twosie until I pulled together a pretty good haul: group of MAC sockets; larger group of Snap-on sockets, ratchets, extensions, etc; SK ratchets; a couple Plomb on the left.

The patent pages are attached. My lateral even has the patent date marked on it. The right side friction pad was clipped off by a PO, but it still moves the iron properly.

Here is an Upson Nut / Standard Rule No. 35. Upson Nut merged with The Standard Rule Co. in 1888. In 1889, George Karrmann of Upson Nut patented and began manufacturing an "improvement in bench-planes", which was a lateral adjustment of the iron to provide a friction-slide for moving the iron...

    Barcalo Buffalo Tools

Picked up this Barcalo Buffalo USA linesman pliers recently. It has the great knurling, is plain steel, and at 8 1/2" is supposedly the largest of the linesman pliers that Barcalo made in the mid-1930s.

    Kraeuter

Here’s a recent pick-up: A Kraeuter 2801-7 7” linesman pliers. Its face is marked “Nickel Dreadnought Steel”, which AA says the company introduced in 1914. It does have the “Don’t Slip” gripping pattern.
