    File Cards And Brushes

I just found one too. Third one is the charm! If I wanted to date it, I guess I could research when E.C. Knudson took over the old H.H. Munger store in Chicago!

    Antique Henry Packer Ratchet Drills

OK, here is my only Packer ratchet drill, but a good example of the fifth manufacturer, Armstong. It is a No. 9, with a great Armstrong "strong arm" logo. Thanks @AntiqueBen for the company context.

Forged Steel Products Co. Vacuum Grip Pliers Thread--Pre Snap-on

Here's a recent pickup, in pretty good shape - a Vacuum Grip No. 85 wire cutter. It is 5" long and marked Newport, PA U.S.A.

    Show us your handplanes

Hi CRSINMICH. I am very familiar with the Stanley 90 having used a very sharp Sweetheart version for years. This Type 1 with the earliest patent date (and not the 3-13-1900 one) and no model number on the casting, I thought was unique. While many people collect the newer versions, or...

    Show us your handplanes

Here’s my Type 1 Stanley No. 90 Bull Nose Rabbet Plane. The type 1 has the Traut’s “PAT’D 8-3-97” patent on the cutter. Stanley began manufacturing the rabbet plane in 1898. It has the S forge marks.

The Ancient and Independent Order of Oddfellows (Adjustables, that is...)

At a garage sale last weekend, I picked up this “The Prince” combination adjustable brace wrench, named after the patentee, Prince E. Shortt of Floyd, VA. After cleaning it up, including the rosewood handles, I tracked down its patent (#921,171, granted May 11, 1909). It is sometimes confused...

Hollow Handle (Wooden, also Steel) Combination Tool and Bits

Here’s my latest find, a J.S. Fray & Co. in very good condition, with rosewood handle and nine original bits. Also, I agree with @Private Lugnutz on the Myers Co. awl. I used it on my two Gerstner and one Pilliod chests to make leather handle replacements with some leather scraps.

    The vintage Blackhawk Thread

OK, I probably worked every waking moment this weekend on restoring (clean, polish, repolish, new product, try again, wax, buff, etc.) this torpedo Blackhawk toolbox. It’s not perfect by any means, but it will have to do...tired out! Of course, I forgot to take the “before” photos. I cleaned up...

    Kraeuter

The Elgin Tool & Socket Company was founded in 1895 in Elgin, Illinois and was best known as the original maker of the "Elgin" adjustable alligator wrench. I believe it was only in 1899 that production of the Elgin wrench was assumed by the Star Manufacturing Company.

    Kraeuter

Here is my Kraeuter "THE VICTOR" adjustable alligator wrench. It’s marked with the patent date of May 26, 1903, which was #728,842 patented by C.S. Bonney and licensed to Kraeuter. AA notes the Kraeuter manufacturing dates as ca. 1904-1910. This alligator wrench is often confused with a...

Show us your Shears, Scissors, and Secateurs!

Here are three of my more decorative shears: 1) 8” bypass shears with a great knurled pattern on the handles, with a “P” and a “L” on the ends of the pattern. I can’t make out the marking, just below the rivet. Any help appreciated. 2) H&S (Hacomer Solingen?) 6” locking pruning shears. There...

    Hammer time!

Wow @RTM! How did you find that? I still can’t find it on DAT. You are very fast/helpful on that site, for everyone. What’s your method? Thanks.

    Hammer time!

Here’s an old 12” strapped hammer I have. I finally cleared off the patina and discovered it was marked, to the best of my eyesight, “ Butterfield”. I cannot find any Butterfield company manufacturing hammers. I’d be happy to hear if any of you have any thoughts on the original manufacturer.

The Ancient and Independent Order of Oddfellows (Adjustables, that is...)

Finally got around to cleaning up my No. 2 Bullard Wrench (12 1/2”length). Patent OCT. 27, ‘03. Still works perfectly.

2024 Garage Sale Thread (13th Annual)

I know a few of you have persevered like this before, but I hadn’t until this weekend. My first stop Friday had maybe forty bins that were full of random sockets, wrenches or other tools. Many of you have worked to the bottom of a box/bin before finally landing the goods, so to speak. I never...

2024 Garage Sale Thread (13th Annual)

This weekend, I happened by an estate sale of everything in an old house that evidently had not been lived in for a long time. There were several buyers already in the garage, so I focused on items positioned on the floor. There was an old Union toolbox, that I recognized from a post from...
