Where to put my pole barn.... perplexed..

I think you have option 3: remove some trees and push it back. I have to take down four or five myself. I never mind. I have an Alaskan Mill so I slab the straight stuff and burn the smaller stuff in my stove. I also found there are a number of people around who will grind stumps. $125 for a...

30'x48' pole barn owners/users please critique

Ventilation at either end is a good point. an extra man door isn't a lot to add. I was going to get eave light put in along my storage area but going heated now I will have to for go the natural light. When I went and looked at other pole barns, it was recommended to have some natural light...

Where to put my pole barn.... perplexed..

    1) make sure your road back there isn't a state highway. Been burned in pa and ny. Ingress from a state hwy can be a challenge to get approved. Both of mine like looked like town roads. 2) option 1 gives you very little yard and sticks a metal barn inches from your house. I am in the option 2...

30'x48' pole barn owners/users please critique

Watching this thread with great interest. I'm in the same boat. Building 40x72 this spring. I've been hot and cold (no pun intended) on floor heat. 90% committed now regardless of whether I need it now or not. Figuring I am more likely to want it in the future than not and figure a heated floor...

How do you run a water line to a slab on grade building in the north?

I know basements are to keep pipes from freezing and frost heave. If I run water to my pole barn, how do I get water up through the floor without it freezing? BTW, been round and round on buildings. I am going 40x72 and 90% committed to putting in a heated floor. Two zones. One shop, one...

Anyone use DripStop brand metal roof liner?

Drip stop is a sheet material bonded to metal roof panels. It absorbs the moisture in the building that would otherwise condense on the metal roof and rain in the building. It holds the moisture and releases it as it evaporates. Not really the application you describe. I got a good and...

Anyone use DripStop brand metal roof liner?

I only found one post on this product here. No one really seemed familiar with it. http://dripstop.net/ It almost sounds too good to be true. A metal roof with this on it saves me the cost of a wood roof (and from an earlier post) the cost of getting a code variance to all for the high enough...

    Thoughts on roof pitch?i

sounds like a 3:12 metal roof pitch is not a bad idea. I might just stick with that forgo the variance application. thanks for the replies.

    Thoughts on roof pitch?i

I'm putting up a 44x80 pole barn. Height restriction is 18'. Roof pitch at that size with 12' walls is 2.9:12. That will be a pretty low slope, though engineer stamped, for our region. I don't plan to have attic storage. Any thoughts on roof pitch +/-'s? The alternate is to go 4:12 or 5:12...

    Noob building a garage.

The only logic to installing pex when it will not be used regularly is to have it for later. I have thought it through and have concluded that FHA will be all I need for a long time. Saw my neighbors place today. He goes through 2-3 100 lb refills of propane a year working weekends off and on in...

    Noob building a garage.

The reason the building is so far away is so I can sever the land later and either sell the barn or sell the house. We are on three acres and the back two are not worth much, the front acre and house are prime waterfront. That said, I was figuring if I go water and sewer it would have to be...

    Noob building a garage.

I'm thinking just propane for heat. Why pay to drag gas out there for a few weekends a month in the winter. That cuts out one utility. I would trench the rest my self and save a few bucks. Should be able to run water and electric with the sewer in its own trench.

I guess you would call it slab. 1/2 copper pipe on 12" centers packed in about 2.5" of cement and finish plaster. With the backing lath it is thicker than a normal drill bit (had a leaky pipe in the bath and had to drain the dining room ceiling - regular drill bit didn't make it). I was all...

    Snow blower wars

I live in the heart of snow country and haven't use my snowblower in any recent memory. I have been doing all my snow removal with a pen.

    Noob building a garage.

I have been lurking here for a while and now I think I am ready to ask some intelligent questions. I'm building a storage + workshop for my antique cars. I am far enough down the road to know some sense of what I want. My neighbor has built a 40x76 pole barn that does the job for him...
