Yikes! need help picking a heater

I've been looking at radiant vs. forced air. Radiant is starting to win the battle. No noise, no air movement, less gas used. All starting to add up. My house is radiant ceiling heat so I get how it works and I really like it. Looks like it can work with gas. Two stage seems to be the way to...

Yikes! need help picking a heater

I did some surfing and found this site. Pretty cool and it is attached to a supplier so I have to think it is accurate. Tells me I need a 65k btu heater to keep my barn at 60 deg when it is 0 deg outside. http://www.ultimategarageheater.com/garage-heater-calculator.php

Yikes! need help picking a heater

About to pull the trigger and put in a trench for electric (500' to the barn). Now I have to figure out how to heat it cause if I need natural gas, that goes in the trench too. How do I pick a heater? 28x40x12 ft. One 10x16 insulated OH door, one man door, no windows. Weekend use in New York...

the concrete guy said 4" was too thin with the pipes in the floor and cars, trucks, and lifts on top. needed to go 6". I believed him. he had done a lot of buildings around here.

    In-floor heat cost reality check

I just priced out a heated floor for my shop. 2 Zones, high quality install, boiler (not hot water heater), glycol filled, all in installed 2880 sq ft was like 18K for the instulation and pipe. about $6K for boiler and manifolds, and about $5K to go 6" of concrete vs. 4". So I was a little over...

    My build starts Monday!

Came home from vacation to find..... no doors installed! But, the driveway guy came by and I got a laneway and landing zone in the front of the garage. The builder did come and put in the R30 ceiling insulation. They said they would be by for the doors maybe this week. Next up? Had my...

Pocket door hw for shelving doors?

Ditto on buying the better hardware. Though I didn't spend the kind of dough mentioned earlier, I did learn the hardway. I took out crappy 2 wheel track on two pocket doors and put the same stuff back in! Didn't realize it was the hardware in general that was the issue. Major PIA to rip it back...

Below 265 SQ/FT Very small garage in Russia

I didn't see a lot of homes here. Been looking for a few days. Got a glimpse of what looked like a subdivision in Pushkin, but we were zooming past. Apartments are the way of life here. Did manage to find a couple of Mustangs to look at. Saw a lot of jeep Cherokees, Chrysler mini vans. Lots of...

Below 265 SQ/FT Very small garage in Russia

Just happened to be driving through st. Petersburg today and noticed miles of these garage like compounds. Took a cell phone shot from the highway. I would say kinda scarey looking by US standards but the Russians love them. Hard to work on a car when you live in an apartment block. Most of...

No. Used a Stihl 660 with a 3/8th ripping chain mounted in an Alaskan Mill. Here is a shot of a couple buddies learning how.

Western New York. Service is pretty bad almost everywhere. Complaining never works, just makes it worse. Low pitch roof was to stay under 18' high. To get a variance would have meant I would have to bride the town board and that would have taken at least all summer. This way, I at least got a...

    My build starts Monday!

The concrete went in a week ago. 4" of 4000 psi with a 6" pad 10x20 where I will put a two post lift. Waiting on garage doors. The builder isn't answering his phone or email. Might be a while before I get any doors.

Only going to heat 28x40. Not sure if I will ever heat the remaining. When I pulled out of heating the floor, the foam went with it. The bulk of the cost would have been in the cold storage side and that would have mean also splitting the slab down the middle to isolate the heated from unheated...

Anyone use DripStop brand metal roof liner?

This is a picture of how it looks. It is a thin fibre coating. Somewhat soft to the touch. It didn't add much to the thickness of the metal. the I meant to pour some water on it to see how it absorbs but they got it all installed in a few hours and there was no scrap. The builders said they use...

    My build starts Monday!

They started on the slab yesterday I wasn't there, but my daughter reported they used two tandem loads of crush. I had them put down 10 mil plastic to keep out moisture and it should help with an epoxy floor coating later.

The finished the shell on the 8th day Still owe me the concrete floor (this week) and the doors (sometime in the next month). Seems kinda odd they would not get the doors scheduled earlier. But the shell is there!

Thanks for noticing. Kind of on purpose. Not a tree hugger but leaving them plays a good role in our strategy. We have a three+ acre property in the middle of town. We count 9 neighbors on the perimeter and we can only see two of them from the main house. The property is mostly 'forested grass'...
