    New garage project

I'm going to use bat ... it seems that the spacing between them isn't exactly equal unfortunately and I hate having to manually adjust each rigid board to fit the space. The wife wants drawers on the two sides of the knee wall which should be an interesting add-on to build. The last roll of...

    New garage project

I have been installing the roof venting since yesterday. I need them since I'm going to insulate this thing and so will need the venting in the roof. Still a pain in the @#$ to keep going up and down installing these. Need to put connectors on 4 more of the security camera wires and then run...

    New garage project

All the 110 / 240V circuits are now wired in and tested. I've started with the networking / security wiring over the weekend and got the CAT6 patch panel done. Now its time to get connectors on all the other ends. The driveway / parking area got finally graded with some crushed rock which...

    New garage project

Thanks. The storage upstairs is totally worth it for us as well as the fixed stairs. Yes .. we lose some space inside the garage but not having to climb a ladder is what clinched the deal for the wife. I also solved the age old question last night on 'how much lights I need for X lumens per...

    New garage project

Thanks .. still lots of expensive stuff needing to be done (insulation and sheet rock adds up fast). 6 circuits are fully operational now and I'm glad I'm testing stuff before putting sheetrock up as I ran into one circuit where I forgot one connecting run. :( This time of year we don't...

    New garage project

Electrical got approved this week with compliments from the inspector. Guess I paid attention in class after all. Framing inspection is Monday (had to reschedule today due to a conflict) I enabled one electrical circuit in the garage .. felt good to be able to turn a few quick lights on.

    24x36 garage

I'll be at about 65 or so. The numbers vary .. some call for 30 .. others call for a higher number. I can get LED tubes for about 10 dollar a piece which will help keeping cost down. I got the first circuit finished today with outlets and some outside lights. It feels so good to be able to...

    24x36 garage

I will have 8 in total in the work area (2 rows of 4) and another 8 in the car park area. So it will be a little brighter than yours.

    24x36 garage

Its been a little while since posting updates to this thread. We passed electrical inspection today so next up is framing inspection and then we can do insulation and sheetrock. I guess it is a good thing if the inspector checks your work and says "nice .. I like the way it looks and how this...

    Outlet inside 'low voltage enclosure'

Plan is indeed to have a router and a PoE adapter in there for the security cameras.

    Outlet inside 'low voltage enclosure'

I picked up one of these http://www.amazon.com/BUD-Industries-NBB-15247-Plastic-Outdoor/dp/B005T57PK4/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1448917815&sr=8-4&keywords=enclosure+box for my low voltage coax and ethernet and am planning to mount it next to the breakerbox. This allows me to keep it secure and out...

    Running outlets in a garage.

Interesting and technically that indeed correct .. my electrician who I consult gave me a different opinion. I already picked up a box of GFCIs so it won't make much of a difference for me :)

    Running outlets in a garage.

I thought ALL outlets have to be GFCI in a garage according to code? http://publicecodes.cyberregs.com/icod/irc/2012/icod_irc_2012_39_sec002.htm

    In wall airline ?

Getting closer to putting insulation and sheetrock on my garage build and I'm hoping to get the compressor mounted in a more enclosed area and run a fixed line through the trusses towards an air reel mounted to the ceiling. I've seen 2 choices .. some suggest simply using galvanized water pipes...

Final tips before putting up dry wall?

I've got a thick skin so I can handle mistakes. Most on that wall are at 50" now .. it was about 1 hour work actually to redo. I will end up with outlets both at that height and a few at 18" or so under the workbench for stuff that will be put underneath. I will need to move 3 more and I'm...

Final tips before putting up dry wall?

It is prewired already for TV and internet. I have a higher outlet for wallmounted TV and an ethernet connection for under the work bench.

Final tips before putting up dry wall?

I keep hearing mixed reports on it .. vertically allows for easier installation by getting 10ft boards... horizontally ties more studs together.

Final tips before putting up dry wall?

I had a few higher up at the correct height but those were 240V outlets .. I'll move some (can't move all to that height) to about 50". Probably just will set me back 1 or 2 hours which isn't a big deal :) I did order a circuit tester recently so that one is ready. As far as sheetrock goes...

Final tips before putting up dry wall?

Noted on the height and I will seriously reconsider that :) I have 2 zones for the lights .. one for the main area where the wife would park the cars and the second one is for the workshop.
