Vintage Delta Bandsaw - 1940's 880 Wood and Metal. Modified with faster motor and gearbox disabled... should I pull the trigger? If so...

Ok, that's good context. Glad to chat with someone who has used one. Just to make sure I'm understanding correctly, you find the Lovejoy clutch better than the little lever? What's been your experience with the stock 2200FPS... sufficient? I think I'm hearing that later models switched to a 6"...

Vintage Delta Bandsaw - 1940's 880 Wood and Metal. Modified with faster motor and gearbox disabled... should I pull the trigger? If so...

I'm looking to add a vertical bandsaw to my hobbiest shop. For versatility, was going to seek out a model that handles wood and metal Found a Vintage Delta Bandsaw - 1940's - Model 880 Wood and Metal with 6" riser block. In great restored shape, and $350, seems like a great deal. However, then I...

Bit holder for using SDS bits with a traditional hammer?

I'm familiar with the RocPec as a tool, as I'm a climber, but didn't realize they fit an SDS bit -- great to know. Many thanks! Anyone know of a similar one for SDS Max?

Bit holder for using SDS bits with a traditional hammer?

Anyone know of a SDS bit holder that allows you to use a good-ol swing hammer with your SDS bits? Looks like Klein has one, but only comes as a set, and I already have the bits. Ideally it would have a large protector around the hitting surface like a target guard masonry chisel.

M12 Caulk Gun - Sausage edition... anyone using for bulk? If not, what's a good gun?

The M12 sausage caulk gun doesn't come with a plunger for bulk. Has anyone found a suitable plunger and used it for bulk? If not, does anyone have a recommended manual or air bulk gun? I see JES has 12:1 and 26:1 manual.... too bad one gun doesn't have two different ratios. I'd be using this...

Harbor Freight 4x6 band saw - lower (drive) wheel runout and performance?

To users of the 4x6 metal bandsaw, how much runout have you seen in your lower (drive) wheel and still been able to get a respectable cut? I was just going through the Pitkin setup procedure for mine, and finding my lower (drive) wheel is out by about 0.039" from high to low (seems like a lot...

A couple steel questions (nail penetration and welding practice coupons)

Have a couple questions on steel, that I thought folks in the fab forum might know. In my remodel, I have a number of large/custom nail protection plates I need to put in place, both electrical/plumbing. My steel yard has 16ga sheet steel in cold rolled (ASTM A366) and hot rolled (ASTM A1011...

Portable transfer pump - what do I need to know before buying and what brands are a good value with respectable quality?

Phosphoric acid - 5-10%. I think I will just use the cheaper submersible pump I have, since it won't run long, then flush it after.

one man brake bleeder kits and fine air bubbles from bleeder valve

When using a one man brake bleeder (small reservoir with magnet and back flow valve), small bubbles are introduced. They come from the threads of the bleeder valve. Do you find these bubbles flow only down the bleeder tube, or do they end up in the brake system, as well? Also, I'm not clear...

Portable transfer pump - what do I need to know before buying and what brands are a good value with respectable quality?

Siding. Runoff will be caught by plastic and gutters and run to a garbage can, then moved elsewhere. Normally my gutters drain to a ditch that seasonally feeds city water supply - so I want to do what I can reasonably do to minimize that.

Portable transfer pump - what do I need to know before buying and what brands are a good value with respectable quality?

Yes, it is a good point. I am learning that this wash does not like metal, though still learning exactly what that means. On the solids, do you know what impellers tend to hold up best? Seems to be a weak spot in pumps. Thank you.

Portable transfer pump - what do I need to know before buying and what brands are a good value with respectable quality?

Thanks, I'll educate myself on jet pumps. My observation was that the cast iron bodies, which are likely more resilient towards particles, require manual priming. So, one part of that is attractive, and the other is not. I'm curious if those with cast-iron bodies also have more rugged impellers...

Portable transfer pump - what do I need to know before buying and what brands are a good value with respectable quality?

Looking to buy a portable transfer pump, as I have an exterior staining job, where I need to catch the wash water runoff with cleaning chemicals and pump it elsewhere. What do I need to be considering when buying one (lift, impeller material/durability, electrical safety features, variable...

Poll: If you had a small 'weekend shop' and were choosing just two vises, what two sizes would you prefer (excluding wood working vises)?

Thanks all, for the great information. Originally I was thinking about one 5" vise, and after reading up, seemed like a 2-vise strategy is better. Based on the poll and feedback, seems it a good thing I asked, since 5" wasn't a very popular size with 2 vises. Pretty strong preference for 6" as...

Poll: If you had a small 'weekend shop' and were choosing just two vises, what two sizes would you prefer (excluding wood working vises)?

Thanks. Funny thing is that I am pretty sure that is the same vise my dad had. I think I last saw it in the 80's

Poll: If you had a small 'weekend shop' and were choosing just two vises, what two sizes would you prefer (excluding wood working vises)?

Unfortunately, I can't tell you what I don't know. It's not a business I'm setting up, it's for home shop use and I don't have a specific agenda. Maybe I'm making a tractor implement or some metal shelving. Maybe I have something I want to hammer on. Maybe i need to hold a tool that I'm repairing.
