Yes, Tungsten Carbide. The 'consumables' are noticeably more expensive, but also become less 'consumable' as a result.

I don't personally own any from the brand, but I know a few guys who do and they seem to be good quality.

Sorry, not true. Powder coating is far tougher than wet paint. The problem with powder coating something like a vise is the patience associated with letting a one hundred pound cast iron vise come up to the specified temperature and then properly maintaining that temperature. Over-curing or...

The brand I use is Norton Blaze Rapid Strip. I've never used the flap disc variety but I know they have them. The generic term to search for is "non-woven flap disc".
