recommend an induction heater (for bolts) please

that, and rust expands differently than steel does, so there's force breaking the bond.

    Advance input needed on radiant

Where the tubes are in a properly built slab does not matter a whole lot to the performance of the heating, because the concrete is going to come to temperature before much heat is transferred into the space. Stapling to the foam is faster than tying to rebar, and doing it that way means the...

The Best Ratchet Lube Has Been Discovered

it's commonly used in Land-Rover swivel balls, which enclose the front axle u-joints, which run in an oil bath. They're chromed, and after the chrome gets pitted, the seals get chewed up, and they leak. The factory started using somehting similar at some point.

What are your favorite "snags" on FB Marketplace or Craigslist?

I bought a Rigid 12r pipe threader from a guy on CL, with one die -- which was even the one I needed -- for a very reasonable price. We talked a bit when we met to do the deal. Turned out the guy was cleaning out his dad's stuff, in a house not far from my office. I bought a couple of planes...

What’s it called? Flippy lever bolt thing.

They're not a cam, it's just a folding lever attached to screw threads. Folding lets you turn it fully, even if it's too close to an obstruction, and you can easily spin it for large adjustments.

What’s it called? Flippy lever bolt thing.

It's some variety of adjustable handle, but I've never seen that variety for sale or listed in a catalog, just on tools. The commonly available kind use a bolt, and the handle is a wrench. spring tension keeps it engaged, but you can pull back to change which flats it's engaged on. should be...

Dimmable Fluorescent Torchiere - Looking for Replacement Switches

If they still work mostly, but don't dim smoothly, or drop out at particular spots, cleaning the potentiometer is where I'd start. If you have a meter, you can test it to see if the resistance changes smoothly as you turn the knob or not, and then clean it. spray contact cleaner or 99%...

Fast Setting Wood Glue for Models, Recommendations Please

for detail work, I have applied the accelerator with a syringe. (you can get an assortment of syringes and blunt luer lock needles from the usual online places). Something like a tooth pick to place a drop would work, too. Starbond sell an accelerator that comes in pump bottle, and which is...

Locate and repair/splice underground service entrance cable vs just replacing entire cable?

Burndy sell screw down underground direct burial splice kits. There’s a sleeve with set screws for the wire, and two different sizes of heavy goo filled heat shrink tubes that go over the splice. There’s a whole range of them, different sizes and conductor counts. At least some of them are also...

    Heating the floor or no?

If there is dampness coming through the slab in a new building, it means the concrete contractor screwed up. The slab should be on well draining base, that doesn’t actually touch the slab, because of a substantial vapor barrier.

I'd be surprised to pull a device in Chicagoland and not find it taped.

Pliers for Small Engine Fuel Hoses

There are about 1000 different varieties of forceps[1], many incredibly specialized for a specific surgical procedure. There's probably one shaped the way you want it, no matter what that is, but most of them are only available from medical instrument makers, at medical instrument prices.. The...

Brake line tools for Euro DIN style flares

they also have the advantage of having them machine bent and installing them early, before there's stuff in the way. Even in the rust belt, lots of cars go their whole lifespan with steel brake and fuel lines.

Who's using a mini split in youz shop?

inadequate dehumidification is usually a sign of a massively oversized AC, or horrible air sealing. It is not an inherent problem of split systems. Oversized means it doesn't move enough air across the coil to dehumidify, poor air sealing means the dehumidified air is lost to the outside.

    The repurposing thread

'Adverse possession' is the legal term. I was serious about the fence. Doesn't have to be a good fence, you're not keeping animals out, it just has to be an obvious fence. 20 t posts, two strands of barbed wire. couple signs -- check what's required (or recommended) where you are.
