When have you broken a craftsman tool?

I've only broken one socket; a 3/8 drive "elbow hinge" socket. I won't say I was abusing it, but it was getting a workout. I've destroyed numerous screwdrivers.

    Benchtop aaarrrggghhh

Just sayin' - I keep a roll of black roofing paper around specifically to process deer. Cut a piece, tape it to work top, cut away. Easy cleanup and removal. My roll of paper will probably last forever.

Thanks for all the replies. 5 hours, 3 cobalt bits, two chisels; got it out and saved the hole.

Drilling out a broken thread tap

Yeah - I broke one off. Definitely *****. Anyways, got some good bits. And have a little hole started - my question is: high speed or low speed on the drill? And yes, I'm using cutting oil.

    Can this be saved?

I would say it can be saved ; I've never used a thread chaser but I've saved similar specialty bolts with a tap and die set. Just be careful and patient.

Cratftsman reverseable ratcheting wrenches, any good?

I've had this set for about 4? years. I love them. I left one little one out in the weather for a little while and the mechanism rusted; pb blaster followed by lubricant and no worries. Great tools. I paid $89 on sale.

Do you own a HAND impact driver

Like everybody else says - its a must have tool once a year. Last time I used mine was to loosen the door hinge screws in a 60 year old car. Worked like it was meant to, and no having to source obsolete specialty screws. Like a flaring tool, or anything else, buy a good one once.

Good quality bench grinder and table-top 1/2" drill press?

It did indeed pain me to do it, but I bought the largest tabletop drill press that Harbor Freight sells. With the coupon and with it on sale I spent around $140. I've had it less than a year, but I've worked it pretty seriously. It has a lot of speed control and I use a lot of cutting oil. I've...

    Boycott Autozone

Anyone who serves time in the military is a veteran. Tell my Dad who served four years as a Marine infantryman in Vietnam he's not a veteran. Or any of my friends deployed in the Middle East that they need to be there for a certain amount of time to be considered a veteran. And hopefully that...

    Why can't I weld!!

Yeah, I know. Free is what it is. It was in the basement of a bar I worked at, it had burned up a wire inside. I fixed it up and have been struggling with it for quite a while.

    Why can't I weld!!

I'm getting pretty frustrated this morning. I'm not a welder, but I'd like to learn. I think I'm in that danger zone of ' enough knowledge to think I know something '. I was given a free welder. It's a Solar 2171 gas less wire feed 110v job. All it has for switches is a min/max range and a...

    Electrical question

I removed the two pole 30a breaker and replaced it with a 20a single pole breaker. I connected the white wire to he neutral bar ( all the other white wires ) and reconnected the black wire to the new breaker. I then replaced the outlet with a single 20a outlet. The oversized wires were a little...

    Electrical question

Hi all - Ok, I rent a garage in the city. It's pretty run down, but the price is right. I don't seem to have enough amperage to run my 110v welder ( draws electricity from a neighboring apartment ). There is a single 220v outlet that has a separate 30amp breaker. Landlord says just use that...
