anyone know where to get a decent brass caliper?

I can't find a decent one anywhere. I have had several of the Empire brand. They are good but the sticker wears off long before the caliper wears out, rendering it useless. The "General" one has terrible QC and the markings are not fine enough. Ideally it would be like the Empire one but no...

    ratcheting flare nut wrenches

I saw this design for the first time at Princess Auto. I have seen other designs of ratcheting line wrenches, but this seems superior. Has anyone out there used them, and would you be willing to give your opinion? Thank you

shorter 1/4 hex bit to square drive socket adapters

Having trouble finding this. Can anyone help me out? Seems like a no-brainer product to me. Shorter bit adapters for tight spaces. Like this: Just as short as possible. And hopefully with a power groove, so I can use it with one of these

    neat blog

I enjoyed reading this guy's blog, maybe you will too if you're the type to obsess about tools, not sure if there's any of those around here.:D He has some good posts about what tools to spend money on while in school, that sort of thing. Here is his post about his 1/4 dr ratchet preferences...

Why has no one done this?

Why has no one made a cordless right angle impact driver with a 3/8" (or 1/4 or 1/2) drive?! It seems like a no-brainer for working on cars where you don't have the clearance for a standard impact. Out of the tiny number of right angle impact drivers on the market, this one seems to stand out...

    Hydraulic Tools

Do you think someday soon we'll see shops plumbed for hydraulics right alongside the pneumatic lines? Tools like these: http://www.stanleyhydraulic.com/Products/ChainSaws/tabid/139/Default.aspx (seems hopeless to me as you'd be tethered to a heavy hydraulic line) or more realistically...

    File storage in toolbox

I am looking for some ideas on better ways to store my files in my box drawer. This is the status quo. Whenever I move the files, there is that oh-so-lovely sound of their teeth grating against each other. These files are some of my most important tools, but I really can't afford to have them...

anyone inform me about this torque wrench?

I just bought it used, he said he'd had it for over 30 yrs. It's 1/4 dr, 20-150 inch pounds. The worn label on the case says "CDI CONSOLIDATED DEVICES, INC. SAN GABRIEL, CALIFORNIA" The adjustment is mic style. It slides out to set and slides back in when set. Is this the...

The low end of the torque spectrum

I need to set some motorcycle engine parts to a spec. torque, and I will need it for engine work in the future. Problem is, the torque values on this Honda are between 5 - 10 ft.lbs. I like the split-beam designs, followed by clickers. Problem is, the split beams only go down to 10 ft.lbs...

    Not Junk?

I got this Kobalt set as a gift. I am really impressed with the ratchet. It has a lot of teeth, seems solid, and it's smooth. I took it apart last weekend and lubed the ratchet, wow. I think it's my favorite ratchet. I also like how it pops off sockets and extensions. I also like the...

    Toolbox Paint

Hello Garage Journal. This forum has so much brilliance, I love looking at people's ideas to create something out of nothing. I'm new here. I'm a college student. I've been rapidly becoming obsessed with DIY ideology. I thought I'd introduce myself by showing a recent project, tell me what you...
