    Garage door repair

I had an almost cataclysmic event last night as my garage door came off track nearly falling on my motorcycles. With the help of a neighbor, we eventually got it back on track but due to the angle it sat at for a while (I'm assuming), the torsion spring cone was pretty tweaked. I watched a...

Hidden Lifts in RaceDeck Floor = Very Cool Garage

Not needed but clamping that front wheel is very comforting! Sweet setup btw. I've wanted to countersink my lift like that for a while. Too much of a pain to retrofit. I'll do it from the outset at the next house though. Chris Pope Locust Grove, GA 07 Sprint ABS, 07.5 Tuono, 85 V65 Magna

Where to start laying down bamboo

Can't remember the color name but it wasn't that. It's a Maple that comes from a manufacturer out of Texas.

Where to start laying down bamboo

This my sitting room dba my wife's office. I laid this locking maple as a floating floor (out of time constraints - I'd rather have glued it). It's almost a square 10x10 and running it parallel to the left wall looked much better than walking in to the room and seeing the wood going across...

Where to start laying down bamboo

^^^ This. You beat me to it. And don't cheap out using an 'adequate' (read: thin) underlayment. Go with the thickest you can get. Chris Pope Locust Grove, GA 07 Sprint ABS 07.5 Tuono 85 V65 Magna

    Valspar Clear on Armstrong VCT

Yes, that's typical of VCT. I like the Armstrong line but I'm not so wild about the Tarkett brand we also carry. I've never heard of using a clearcoat on VCT but that does sound interesting provided that the clear doesn't have a negative reaction to the VCT. As far as the sanding, Armstrong...

Gregsmith floor tile.? Has anyone used them ? Pics

Interesting. Turns out there is a showroom somewhat close to me, so I might go check these out. I have a couple Racedeck samples I can take to compare as well. A $1.50 per sq ft difference really adds up quickly. Chris Pope Locust Grove, GA 07 Sprint ABS 07.5 Tuono 85 V65 Magna

Tile install, previously carpet & vinyl (linoleum)

Make sure to thinset underneath the backerboard too. Too many DIYers don't do that step. Chris Pope Locust Grove, GA 07 Sprint ABS, 07.5 Tuono, 85 V65 Magna

    Wood floor on concrete

If you *really* want solid wood as opposed to engineered, Bruce makes a a 5/16 solid called "Natural Reflections". Personally, I like the engineered product better than any solid wood, 5/16 or 3/4.

New tile foyer, front door threshold

I work at Lowe's in Flooring. What's the item # of the tile you're looking at? And FWIW, I'd consider putting quarter round at that door if your cutting skills don't allow for clean cuts there. You'll see those cuts every time you walk in and out of the door.

Hmm, I work for Lowe's and haven't seen them go clearance at my store. I'll surely check when I get back to work tomorrow. Chris Pope Locust Grove, GA 07 Sprint ABS 07.5 Tuono 85 V65 Magna

    VCT questions

Yes, but what exactly do you mean by when it rains it comes up through the concrete? Simple sweating or worse? If the slab just gets darker you should be fine sealing it. But to be sure, I'd seal it twice as that will give you a much better base to adhere the tile to. Chris Pope Locust Grove...

    VCT questions

In short, yes. If you have moisture coming up through the slab when it rains, your substrate is nowhere near prepared for a hard surface floor being glued down. You'll need to seal that slab first and foremost. Once it is sealed, then you'll be ready for installing a floor VCT, porcelain...
