    Show your new tool arrivals

Shopping in 🇨🇭Switzerland🇨🇭 today….. Matador plastic panel wedge (seems to be made out of far superior material to my Hazet panel wedges / trim tools) some sort of polymide (fiber reinforced plastic). Matador 1/4” long reach T-handle with swivel joint Bauhaus carpentry pencil I believe all...

Kennedy Still Good for Reasonably Priced US Tool Box?

I think Kennedy is the choice for machinists, in machine shops. That is where I see them. I think if you want a true “tool box”, for industry- automotive, aerospace, industrial maintenance, I would look elsewhere. The Kennedy boxes I have worked with seem to be of ancient design, lacking many...

    The Facom Tools Thread.

I too, have a S154 long handle 1/2” drive. I seem to recall paying US equivalent of $68 for it in France. The best part for me is it is user rebuildable. I place a high value on that.

    Innova 5610

I have the Innova 5610 and it has been great. Does not work on German cars. Need to spend Bosch money and buy a Bosch diagnostic tool. Or make do with a Foxwell or an Autel.

    E-Torx Quandry

I have the USAG E-Torx set and I like them. Purchased from UltimateGarage. The Renegade I think is based on a Fiat platform. Aren’t Jeeps now made in Italy? I have encountered Italian industrial hardware and it seems to prefer Italian tools for optimum fit.

    Battle of the Bit Ratchets

Great work and information, @Ohio Andy This thread has grown to be one of the best in General Tool Discussions for useful info on bit ratchets

    ZMotorsports Shop Projects 2.0

Was this preventative maintenance doing the water pump and timing belt + tensioner? Or is it recommended at this mileage? Great work per usual.

tool allowances for techs starting their careers = great idea

I agree with you and your approach. The technical school you go to should continually revise the basic tool list that is recommended. Ideally, the technical school would work with the manufacturers (CAT, MAN, Cummins, etc) and have dialogue as to what will be expected of new hires.

tool allowances for techs starting their careers = great idea

I know my list is valid. I was underwhelmed by the available tooling in Canada and the technical competence. There is a reason for this. Canada has roughly 1/10th the US population. Industry is smaller as a result.

tool allowances for techs starting their careers = great idea

Full of life experience and a knowledge gained from travel. Go to Japan and it’s a totally different experience as to how belongings are treated. I needed to borrow a trimmer from my neighbor years ago. When I finished with it, I cleaned and oiled the blade. I returned it in better condition...

tool allowances for techs starting their careers = great idea

This is the first time I have ever heard of a union job this diverse. To go from automotive (it sounds like engine and axle building) to cabinetry to cabin construction to painting is incredible. This is the first time I have ever heard of such a thing.

Not new news; just recent evidence corded power tools are now officially worthless junk

I think you need both. I love my Bosch cordless tools and have been impressed by Milwaukee cordless. I even own a Ryobi cordless glue gun that works well. For a home user, Ryobi isn’t bad for the money.

tool allowances for techs starting their careers = great idea

I agree with this. I think it is crazy she “wants” to be in this trade, but has zero initiative to acquire what is needed to do professional jobs. Have you had the talk with her that the tools matter, make life easier, and save time and headache?

    ZMotorsports Shop Projects 2.0

A really important post. Lesson learned: Power steering hydraulic systems are highly susceptible to damage in the presence of any debris because of tight tolerances within the valve. I guess the small amount of metal shavings from the grinding was just enough to cause galling, and thus failure...

    1/4 screwdriver bit storage preferences

And it is worse in other countries. The scrutiny fliers receive coming into Canada and Germany and elsewhere far exceeds that of the US. Canada being the most stringent from my experience. Do not give them ANY excuse to delay your travel if you value your time and travel plans. This is why...

Amazing that the metal on the crimp end of the power steering hose would have caused enough debris when you cut it to damage the valve inside the pump….. Thank you for sharing! You contributions on here are peerless, so no need to pay attention to the internet ego of others who cannot admit...

tool allowances for techs starting their careers = great idea

Great marketing idea, especially since the “victims” have an ability to incur debt, and little idea as to what they will really need!

They should have warranty. If modern German cars sit, this is what happens. Had it happen twice this year on cars I do not drive much.
