    Critique My Electrical Before Inspection

I thought a fridge would trip gfci outlets pretty regularly. Is that not the case? Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk

    Critique My Electrical Before Inspection

I was thinking of making a non gfci outlet for my kegerator. I know there is an exception for fridges in kitchens. I assume it applies in garages as well. Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk

    Critique My Electrical Before Inspection

Good call. I've got the clips. I had to remove it when I added the outlet there. It's only 3-4 feet from box to box on the conduit, so it's certainly not going anywhere.

    Critique My Electrical Before Inspection

Was fixing the issues in my garage, but got slowed down by the subzero weather, week long power outage, and holiday vacations. Here are some updated pictures. Just have to buy some more nail plates. From this picture, you can see that I added the probably not necessary nail plates. Better...

    Menard's Deals Permathread!

Does anyone know if you can buy the gift cards, get 11% MIR, and then use the gift cards on an item and then submit that for a 11% MIR as well? Seems like they would have a way to stop you from doing that. Otherwise, I may be doing a bit more shopping. That would be just a tad over a 20%...

NATO 20 liter (5.28 gallon) gas cans

I understand that. Just tell me what they do where you will notice significant results. What is the payoff of using these over a reasonable quality plastic container vs a cheaper metal container.

Romex can be run in conduit. You just have to size it properly. They consider it a circle with a diameter of the widest point of the cable. Either way, you could use thhn and be safe. It's just a good way to preplan so you don't have to rip your walls back up. Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk

NATO 20 liter (5.28 gallon) gas cans

Did I miss something? What's the point in spending ~$10 a gallon to store gas? You can get a decent quality metal can for significantly less. Even in the best can, gas is still going to go bad. Maybe if you did a lot of off-roading, but most people have specific gear/equipment to take care...

Is conduit in the cavity out of the question? Seems like that would make getting back there less of an issue.

    Menard's Deals Permathread!

On a side note, a friend of mine works at Menards. He said that around two years ago, the jingle was broken and wasn't playing over the loud speaker in his store. He said it took them 2 hours to get it fixed. It was his favorite 2 hours working at the store. He and his coworkers still speak...

    Menard's Deals Permathread!

I've found that Menards either beats or meets the everyday prices of HD or Lowes. I love the free deals from Menards. I just got my rebate check from when I picked up 4 lbs of sausage (free), 2 oven liners (free), 12 packs of gum ($1), and 2 LED flash lights (Free used heavily during the 5 day...

    Motor Oil Deals.

I buy my Mobile1 from Meijer. They have it at the same price as Walmart, ($22.50 I believe) and then about once a month or so, they'll come out with 15-20% off any general merchandise mPerks coupons. That brings it down to $18 for the big jug.

    Adding Generator Readyness To Electric

I guess I'm curious how many feet from the furnace intake the generator needs to be. Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk

    Adding Generator Readyness To Electric

There are some decent enough looking portable units that do propane or gas, 5000 watts, and are under $700. O figure the propane would be the preferred way to go, but having a backup fuel would be helpful as well. I'll have to sit down and do a more comprehensive cost comparison between the...

    Adding Generator Readyness To Electric

I've got a toaster oven that could fit quite a bit. I also can fire up the outside grill or use my gas smoker as an oven if necessary. I'm not expecting to have a 100% normal life when the power is out, but I would like to be able to keep our food safe, the heat on, and have some luxury items...

    Adding Generator Readyness To Electric

The panel I posted the link to is designed for a generator. It has an integrated interlock, as well as voltage meters built in. As far as the code stuff, I had assumed that I would have to make sure that any circuits I moved over would be up to code. I didn't think I would have to modify...

    Adding Generator Readyness To Electric

Maybe I'll get a quote or two on it. I like having no fuel supply issues. I also wouldn't mind running the generator when I'm not home if it was stationary. I still don't think I'll try to do the ng myself. Maybe I'll see if anyone I know can run ng. Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk

    Adding Generator Readyness To Electric

So, I was toying with this before, but after a 5 day power outage, I think it's time to pull the trigger on getting my house ready for future power outages. My main panel is a 100 amp Pushmatic. It's also installed in a spot where I can't easily use one of the transfer switches that ties in...

my hot water heater busted I need lowes or home depot coupon

That's half right. I'm not sure if you know how the Anode's in your water heater work, but http://www.waterheaterrescue.com/ is a great resource to learn if you don't. Basically, the gist is that every water heater comes with a rod that's inside the water. It fights off rust. These are...

    $800 sound about right?

Does that quote include the permit? They are going to pull a permit, right?
