Concrete Driveway - Anything I am Missing?

WOW, that's a hell of a driveway. What are you planning on parking on it? Since it is outdoors there is no need for poly, it's used to keep moisture from coming up from the ground not down. Just keep the slab misted down for a day or two. Watch your slump and air entraining. Don't go higher...

Rotary Lift Installed -2?s 1 Problem

I had to laugh at this one. I was always taught never to punch through the concrete. Have you ever noticed that when a hammer drill is used to drill all the way through a wall. It almost always spalls the opposite side, typically in a cone shape. If the anchor bolt is inserted to far in the...

Rotary Lift Installed -2?s 1 Problem

Holy ****!!! How did your floor get poured 1-1/2" out of level? Is it an old floor that has sunk? I would definately talk to the manufacturer about a solution since the floor is the problem and the lift needs to be modified. I'm sure this isn't the first time something like this has...

    Here she goes.....

I've never seen this detail used before. Just curious though. If this wood is to hold the sill board in place, what holds them in place to the stem wall. Is there anything anchoring the wood to the stem wall? Nails protruding through the boards certainly will not provide the proper support...

Sand, not to sure if this matters?

You stated that you needed 22" of fill in your original post. Industry standard is to run a compactor after each 12" layer of fill is placed. When compacted properly, this will make sure that there is no settling of the fill material once the floor is poured therfore your slab will have proper...

Winch to pull vehicles into garage

If I read this right, your back wall is 8" thick concrete that is buried into the side of a hill. If that's the case you might want to consider using epoxy to anchor your bolts. It will definately eliminate the possiblility of over tightening expansion anchors. You might consider using a...

    Electrical question.

THe best thing to do would be to find the power source and disconnect the wires there as stated previously. Do yourself one better and either pull the wiring out or label both ends so someone else in the future doesn't get excited. If you do not do that and decide to use a junction box, code...

Concrete block stem wall tips please

How high will your stem walls be? 4" rebar prortrussion from the footing doesn't create much of an overlap. If I remember correctly typical is 20 times the rebar diameter, which would be 10" minimum. I would suggest that you use grout to fill the necessary cores rather than concrete. It's...

New 16' door, floor is heaved now I got gaps.

Mud-jacking will only work if the slab sinks, I think in this case the slab rose from its original elevation due to ground heaving.

    An idea for you fabricators

That's a novel idea. I wish I'd thought of that before I poured my floor. Just a couple of comments for anyone thinking of doing this that comes to mind after seeing the pic above. If you weld rebar to anything make sure to preheat it otherwise you are taking a chance of crystalizing the...

New 16' door, floor is heaved now I got gaps.

Rather than replacing the whole floor, why not cut out an elongated triangular section where the floor heaved and just repour that section. It would only be a couple of yards of concrete and would bring the spot where the door contacts the floor back to approximately the same elevation.

    Wall Art help!!!

Cool idea about having your car as the mural. I'd go one better and have him include you leaning over the engine compartment. If you want to tick off the wife/girlfriend you could have them added in the background mopping the floor. :bounce: Just kidding. Make sure to post a pic of the...
