    Let's See Your Garage Dog

Pumpkin is most definitely a car dog.

Ideas for adding garage onto a raised ranch

That might be cheaper than stem/retaining walls. :) All else fails, I can plop it in the center of my back yard :) The nice thing is that this house really has possibilities.

Ideas for adding garage onto a raised ranch

Offhand question. How hard is it to take DOWN a VersaTube garage (assuming unfinished on the inside). Thinking I will buy/install in the short term, just to get my cars under cover, but I may want to relocate when the final location is built out. And, immediate ROI is not a concern. I plan on...

Ideas for adding garage onto a raised ranch

BTW, I'm perfectly fine with metal garage. Several of the neighbors have them. Sure, I'd love a 2 story, stick built mancave, but I'm fine with a really good pad and a VersaTube until I win the lottery. And, as long as the door is under 8 feet and the accessory under 900 sq feet, it's legal...

Ideas for adding garage onto a raised ranch

I had a 20x20 in my old house. 24x24 is fine, I don't have big cars (and I could give a **** about future owners). Behind would definitely be more ascetically appealing. If I did that, I'd probably prefer the left side, b/c it's the high side and not where the eye naturally trails. But it's...

Ideas for adding garage onto a raised ranch

I know, and I'd prefer to have the 2 car anyways. I'm thinking that I leave the existing house alone and build a standalone with a small breezeway. Most houses in eastern MA below $800k are lucky to have a garage at all (or some have them underneath, or fit for 1920s cars, so they are royal PITA).

Ideas for adding garage onto a raised ranch

The house needs mechanicals and some other 'stuff', but that's factored into the purchase price. That's not the question here really, it's where to put the garage. City setbacks are 25 front, 12 side. I can put a 24x24 in front of the family room (offset) and still be within the setbacks. 20x20...

Ideas for adding garage onto a raised ranch

So, have an accepted offer on a raised ranch (not a split, but a raised ranch with a partial walkout basement) but it does NOT currently have a garage. Starting to visualize, for fun. 1. Oddly enough the basement behind the brown stained exterior wall, under the family room(which is completely...

Mini retaining wall...am I overthinking the design?

Wizard is referring to manufactured stone 'lip on the bottom'. I'm using actual stone...each piece weighs 10-100 lbs, depending upon the size. Whole other level of strength/structural integrity. @roc_on_the_rocks, base really comes down to your soil and condition and if you are using...

Mini retaining wall...am I overthinking the design?

Thanks all. I've had a couple dry stack specialists come out. They are both of the opinion that as long as we follow the appropriate 'good building' techniques (a good gravel base, a thick and buried first course, stones placed 'long side in', staggered joints, backsloped courses and crushed...

Mini retaining wall...am I overthinking the design?

Okay, so if you recall, crazy Techie used her highly recommended Burke bar to pop up (well, with help) 20k lbs of sandstone for a new to me patio. Now that the patio is in, I finally convinced my landscaper that we need to fill the low portion of my yard, and in order to do that, I need a mini...

Shoring up an existing shed floor

Thank you all, but after 4 attempts of trying to get it moved (and my helpers bailing), I've abandoned the project. Guess I'll just have to build my own.

Shoring up an existing shed floor

All geared up, but my neighbor bailed. Grr. Waste of a freakin' gorgeous day. Will try again next weekend. At least I got all the gear (and my rusted-on trailer hitch lock replaced).....

Shoring up an existing shed floor

I went by to look at it. It's pretty solid. Only challenge is it's wedged between the garage and fence (only about 8" clearance). And we have to clear a 4" downspout pipe drain that is front of the shed...so PVC won't work. But, it is on hard surface, well, somewhat. May have get a couple of...

Shoring up an existing shed floor

Can't do anything like Shelterlogic in my neighborhood....I'd be called to the town board. We're really fussy about how things look. I don't mind the effort (should cost less than $100 to move....a $20 Uhaul trailer for a day, 10 feet of PVC and a case of beer for my friend. I already have the...

Shoring up an existing shed floor

No, I'm not disassembling. it's being moved less than a mile. Plan it to jack it, 6" PVC under, and roll it onto a small trailer. It's a pretty small shed and is going to house lightweight stuff. Heaviest thing I might put in it is my snowblower. If it lasts for 10 years, I will have gotten my...

Shoring up an existing shed floor

Hi all... Now that the stone patio is laid, onto my next adventure. Needed a small (4x8) lean-to type shed for the basics (e.g. pushmower, a few garden tools). A neighbor is basically giving away his 6 year old shed (as long as I can move it). Assuming the worst, any ideas on how to reinforce...

Popping 3x3 sandstone 'pavers' out of a mortar bed

BTW, the recommendation for the Burke bar was the bomb. Armed with a Marshaltown 'Burke' bar, hand dolly, good pallets and a skid steer (w forks)....we were able to remove and transport 20k lbs of sandstone in 2.5 days (fairly easily). Will reinstall in the spring. Thanks for the recommendations!

Popping 3x3 sandstone 'pavers' out of a mortar bed

So, do I need an actual 'Burke' bar, or would a HD Klein Grizzly bar be sufficient? Oh, and who says I'm a guy? A gal can have a sawzall, Burke bar, truck and a boat. Just sayin' :)
