Looking for some kind of retractor I can put on the ceiling

They aren't necessarily cheap, but have you looked at tool balancers? They have adjustable tension.

    Dust Deputy... this thing works!

I was thinking perhaps using some kind of other container. One summer in my youth, I worked in a factory that made fiber drums. Some of those had lids with a band on them that could quickly be removed. The band was a cam-over lever. I believe that they called these lever-packs. The company...

What has OldCarGuy come up this time?

Cool to have an actual booth. Have you thought about more lights?

    Dust Deputy... this thing works!

I made one specifically for my blast cabinet. So far it works well. Now I just need to clean up the shop vac and the cabinet. It actually works much better than expected. The filter (suction) does not diminish like it used to. I believe once I clean it up, it will stay cleaner. My only...

    design and engineer soffit cabinets

Why not just build actual cabinets? Forget the all-thread supports for the front of the shelves. The SIDES of cabinets give them strength as do the face frames. No need for 2x material for cabinets. Check out the construction of your kitchen cabinets. They typically fasten only to studs...

    Oil drain tanks

Mine isn't plastic. For the price, it's hard to beat, but if you want to spend that kind of money to drain your oil, feel free. Here is a link to some "higher quality" units: http://www.asedeals.com/oil_drains.html

Question for the engineers, 2 post lift installation

I highly doubt that Rotary (a division of Dover) has no Engineers that could answer all of your answers. When I contacted them for installation instructions and a manual for my old lift, they responded within the day with the proper documentation. They even provided the spec for their...

    work benches... from scratch

It's been a while since I looked at this thread. Thanks for asking. The top material is 16 GA 316 Stainless. I brought a few pieces from when I moved away from Kansas City 2 years ago. Our shop at work fabricates large washers and tanks from stainless and formed more tops to match my...

    Jack Olsen's Quaint Masterpiece...

Whew! Jack, Thank you very much for posting the "messy" picture. Don't get me wrong, I love your garage, but I have never seen it as my garage appears to me the majority of the time (with most horizontal space covered with stuff in process).

    MIsleading Harbor Freight Website

People actually call to complain about HF ****? Amazing. I typically buy stuff there that is either consumable or that is one-time use. If it makes it the one time, I'm typically $$ ahead. It's when it doesn't last the one time that ends up costing me.

    Powder Coat Oven Plan

If at all possible, I would make the walls and insulation thicker. This is one of those things that I would like to someday try, but currently I use an actual industrial unit at work. The heating element used in this oven did give me an idea or two....... Here is a link to the actual site...

    freakin ****!!!!!

:agree: I too think it was on the insulation when they put it up. No sign of moisture or staining on the studs that I can see from the pictures, but since you are right there, you should be able to better tell if there was any moisture inside the wall.

Cheap/easy way to add a metal surface to my work bench?

I used stainless screws and ground them down flush.

    Picking up my lift

I don't envy you. I still remember moving here. I brought my lift with me. Damn those things are heavy. Mine, an asymmetrical 2-post 7000# Rotary Lift, was a bear to lift and load into my enclosed trailer. I got it done one post at a time. Lots of cribbing, pry bars, and a 4-wheel cart...

Has any one painted wood paneling?

I think it depends upon what paneling you are considering painting. Adhesion is the main worry. In my case, the DAPO decided that "barn siding" paneling would look good in my shop and lined the walls of my "office" side of my shop. They stained it all dark and it's like a cave in there...

Who uses 'mechanics gloves' and why?

I used to only use welding gloves for hot-work. I never could stand to wear any gloves. I tried the latex gloves and hated them. After more years of chemicals than I care to admit, my skin on my fingers started to split and crack even when just gently working. I couldn't stand it. I now use...

    Drilling concrete

When I have used the blue tapcon screws, I have bought several of the special sized bits. Slow the drill down and it will help. I don't know for a fact if a hammer drill would work with those bits. The hammer drills I have used use special bits that only seem to fit hammer drills. the tapcon...
