    work benches... from scratch

It's stainless. It was broken to size. Part was done in Kansas City, and the rest here were I live now. Our shop matched the ones I brought with me very well. Most any good sheet metal shop should be able to break sheet metal to whatever you desire. Good luck.

Picture Whores? Hijackers? Us? My 911 engine is apart right now, but will soon go back into the track car.....

    Made in USA or not?

HIjack----- I proudly bought some MADE IN USA items at Wal-Mart today. I bought (3) large drip pans all MADE IN USA! I was a little surprised. Glad, but surprised.

    Show me your shop crane(s)

Now that is impressive. Is the footer actually built to what the MFG calls out? (something close to a HUGE 4'-0" cube of reinforced concrete)

Workbench Tops - What's your preference?

I love my stainless tops! The only drawback is I don't want to weld on them. I end up welding on portable benches. One day, I want a 1/2" or 1" thick steel welding table.....

schlage locks -- now made in China?

I agree with you, but be careful. Many "knowers" here will flame you for making such statements. Tax the Hell out of Chinese products. Raise the duty fees 1000%! I know for a fact that Schlage still currently has mexican operations. What I really dislike about the China manufacturing is...

Another reason not to buy chineese stuff

Obviously, you don't "get it". Any American job saved is worth while. Why would we care if China reciprocates? We really don't "need" their junk. The masses need to be convinced that they should choose more wisely, but while they want everything to "cost less", they all want a raise. They...

Show me your "flip up or flip down" work bench and hardware

Your garage is so cool. You are obviously a master at utilizing every bit of space. Very creative. How much space did you allow between the back "hanger board" and the worktop when it is folded up? Have you ever had them become unlatched and fall? Me on the other hand, very wasteful by...

Another reason not to buy chineese stuff

Here is my slanted view on the situation. Some agree. Most disagree for whatever reason..... The solution is import taxes. Heavily tax imports to the point where we can compete price-wise with the Made in China items. Something HAS to level the playing field or we will all end up flipping...

someone needs to help this guy

I swear I have seen this picture on the net. If I recall correctly, it was when I was looking at melting and casting aluminum. I did find a lot of information for building a furnace and pouring aluminum into molds. When you look at places like the one in the photo, you quickly discover that...

Cheap ceiling for a pole barn.

The building has no soffit or ridge vents. There really are no soffits on the building to have vents in, just the roof then gutter with no overhang. Actually, there is no gable end vents either.

Cheap ceiling for a pole barn.

Here is another question: The roof of the pole barn is a standing seam type metal. There is a white insulation or vapor barrier below the roof deck. There are 2x4's spanning between the trusses on 2'-0" centers. Is it a bad idea to add insulation between the 2x4's? Would I be asking for...

Cheap ceiling for a pole barn.

If I go 7/16" OSB ($6.77) and 2x4's ($2.16) on 24" centers I should be able to do my area for around $665 (no insulation).

    work benches... from scratch

Face them with? Do you mean doors? I thought about doors, but it's not in the budget and they get in my way. They would keep dust out though. They actually do have face frames but blend into the cabinets. Perhaps you would donate your black car? It would go along nicely with my white one...

Cheap ceiling for a pole barn.

What is the minimum thickness of OSB that won't sag over a 24" O/C span ceiling? Would I be able to get away with 1/4" or 3/8"? I'm thinking of framing between the bottom chord of my roof trusses with 2x4's on 24" centers to provide something to support OSB. Did I mention that I don't...

Cheap ceiling for a pole barn.

Some good thoughts here. Please keep them up. I haven't decided yet. I have wanted to bridge between the trusses as I think it would stiffen up the roof. I'm not used to having trusses so far apart, but so far it hasn't been a problem. The reason I want to do a ceiling is to keep heat in...

Cheap ceiling for a pole barn.

I'm looking for ideas to put up a cheap ceiling in my pole barn. Here is what I have: A pole barn 64' x 40' with trusses on 8'-0" centers. There is virtually no bridging between the lower chord of the trusses, but I have been considering adding some. The building is divided into two areas...
