The VINTAGE toolboxes of Garage Journal!

Here are the Kennedy boxes I’ve found at estate sales around the area. The last one is the Kennedy that replaced the red and black craftsman in the earlier posting. Hmm getting old I was sitting here reading and realized hey dummy that last box is a Park not a Kennedy at all. Wow.

    Post up your Thorsen tools!

These are the Thorsens I have gotten over the years. It’s what my folks started me off with. Don’t remember if they got me the wrenches or socket set first. They bought them at the local true value store so when the ratchet broke and I went in to replace it they didn’t tell me sorry we have them...

The VINTAGE toolboxes of Garage Journal!

Oh I forgot about the socket box I got that’s been identified as made by the same company as craftsman’s.

The VINTAGE toolboxes of Garage Journal!

I m going to start at the beginning I guess. This is my first toolbox my parents got me when I was probably 12 which would have been 1974. Came with a paper to fill out to get the ID tag. Sticking with the Craftsman line, I got this heritage box at an estate sale can’t remember but I’m sure I...

    Show your adjustable wrenches!

I got it cleaned up a little and out in the sun I see it’s W. Baxter Pat. Dec. 1 1868. There are letters on the other side of the jaw but they’re stamped and I assume an owner id.

    Show your adjustable wrenches!

A good buddy of mine makes some excellent yard art from old scrap metal and tools. He had some stuff that he didn’t want to weld on and ruin so he brought me a box of goodie’s. This adjustable wrench has a name that looks like Baxter possibly and a patent number I haven’t been able to read yet.

    Mining Equipment and Tools

In the very small Illinois town of Cherry there was a coal mine from 1905-1935. I don’t know when my wife’s great grandpa worked there but I am blessed to now have a pick and shovel that he used in that mine. The shovel is 21” tall, I can’t even begin to imagine what that must have been like to...

    Vintage Ephemera

As you can see from the inside cover it’s the oct. 1955 issue of the Snap-On catalog. I think I got it from a guy who used to work with us. Interesting, I can post more pictures if anyone has specific interests.

    Interesting Billings Wrench

Funny, I just saw this thread today and yesterday I came across this Indestro in a drawer that has nothing to do with wrenches. Serendipity

    Wrench kit identification please

Definitely works better with the sockets inserted correctly. Now I’ll just have to find the drive plug.

    Curious socket box

It’s an interesting mystery. The box isn’t beat up but it does seem to be worn enough to have been used, but the tools do not seem to have much if any wear.

    Curious socket box

Since fourcycle taught us that Edwards and son was a tin maker shop. I have to wonder if they had a contract to make boxes for craftsman.

    Curious socket box

Yes the tools are stamped None Better so New Britain would be the manufacturer. The tools don’t really appear to be original to the box. You can tell there was a bigger set in it at one time. But that’s just a guess.

    Curious socket box

Found this New Britain/None Better socket set. It appears to have an almost varnish type of finish on the tools. I don’t know if they came that way or if my wife’s uncle’s dad applied the finish for protection. Very nice set. The curious thing to me is the box, the label on the front says...
