SO -today's snowstorm - is everyone happy with their choice of snow blower??

I love my Ariens Professional 28. Was looking at the usual places for a snowblower a few years back and was turned off by how cheap they all felt. Thin metal, sheet metal skis, lots of plastic. crappy controls. The Ariens Pro on the other hand is built like a tank is comparison. Didn't mind...

    Evening Welding Course.

If you try the course at Conestoga, I would be curious if you found it valuable and what your impressions of it are. Not sure where you source your metal for projects, but I like walk into Production Metals Steel Sales (Golden Triangle) in Cambridge and pick through their drops. Significantly...

    Let's See Your Chainsaws

Thanks, that will save me a bunch of research and probably money. Unless I start looking for a bigger saw. I didn't find the 261 with a 20" bar had any issue cutting through the ash tree on full depth cuts, but I also have no reference of cutting with a bigger saw. Never really forced the saw...

    Let's See Your Chainsaws

Since everyone here is talking about chainsaws, I figure I'll ask a question that I have been thinking about. I currently have a MS261 with a 20" bar which was for cutting up a large ash tree we had dropped. Doing lighter work and pruning the tree, it feels too long for a do everything saw...

    Let's See Your Chainsaws

Nothing fancy from me. A Stihl 261 with a 20" bar which paid for itself to clean up an ash tree dropped in my parents backyard. Also have a Homelite XL-12 that was given to me for free since I seemed like the type of guy that would enjoy it. Was buying an OA tank/torch from an older guy moving...

    Gas cylinders

As other guys say, depends on the store. Generally speaking, if the neck of the cylinder is stamped or embossed, it's a rental tank. Otherwise, it's owned. My local Air Liquide was willing to swap any cylinder so long as the neck isn't stamped by another company. My 60cf Oxy I got off...

    TV In Your Garage

Have a 50" mounted up pretty high on a fireplace pull down mount to bring it to eye level. Connected up to a computer so I can see/make plans, keep notes, look stuff up, listen to music, or watch some racing or hockey. It's a lot better than try to look something up on your phone with greasy...

    Air hose sizes and fittings

My air compressor has a 1/2" brass push style quick connect on it. I always use my 1/2" line to connect and run 3/8" quick connects for all my tools. I got them off McMaster, and they are really nice. Depending on what I'm doing, I have 3/8 and 1/4 lines I can attach for more reach and less...

Picked up an import floor standing drill press with a custom table for cheap at an auction, and the table in a separate lot. After bringing it home, I realized that the custom table wasn't flat in any direction. It was sloped down and twisted. I screwed a piece of wood with wedges to manage for...

Offset smoker I put together last winter out of a couple 100lb (25 gallon) propane tanks I picked up on the cheap. Winged most of the design, and just started putting lines and cutting where it seemed to make sense based on other smokers I have seen. Added a 1/4" flat cooktop to the firebox...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Nice video and production. If I ever decide to repair the swivel portion of my parker, I'll have to keep in mind how much of a pain that pin will be to get out. Especially since mine is broken off and mushroomed in the hole.

workbench for heavy mill and lathe

My vote would be to base your design off of this standard table. http://www.eaa1000.av.org/technicl/worktabl/tablefig.htm It's nothing but 2x4's and simple to put together, but by overlapping the pieces the legs transfer the weight directly to the floor. Instead of other designs where the...

$85 American is a great price for the set. I definitely wouldn't be paying $215 CAD that they are asking for it now. If you found that on a '81 Yamaha, then I definitely need to pick up a set of 0.9mm. Haven't seen in on the gearboxes I have done, but will come across it eventually.

I gave my Record #6 that was on my bench to my Dad, and this one is going to be my primary. Got a picture of the 372? I couldn't find it in the vices spreadsheet

putting a speed control on a single phase 120 volt 3 HP motor

My Powerex Scroll Compressor runs at 3450 RPM, but is still driven by a 1725 RPM 5HP motor at 2:1 ratio. 4 pole motors are generally better than the 2 pole equivalents.

I got this set. It has the exact sizes I use for my dirtbike transmissions. Surprisingly, this set is 30% more expensive now than when I picked it up in January 2018... Inflation is a *****, buy now! These are 1.3mm and 1.8mm but that is all I have had a need for. Never needed smaller. What...

Thanks, I'll have to check out my local home hardware. Owners are usually in and can be convinced to order some in if they don't have it. Any pictures of some painting examples?

Clear poly wasn't an option, but my bench cleans up easy when covered in solvents or oils.

What brand/colour? Most of what I have seen locally is basic or tractor colours.

I have a different style of the snap ring pliers by Knipex, but they absolutely blow anything else I have used out of the water.
