Use vapor barrier when insulating unheated garage?

I uuuuh... Yeah this conversation is supremely weird, I've never heard of anyone NOT using vapour barrier with insulation and drywall. There's a reason it's Code. I can't imagine the mold potential without it. If you're using rigid foam (especially with the nice foil backing) directly onto...

    Air addmitance value delete question

IMO, garbage disposals don't do anything but plug up yer ****. And I would assume it would make things much worse if you don't have the sink properly vented (and therefore, properly draining.) But do as you will. What Git said is correct, though, the valve must be 4-6" minimum above the...

    Wrenching in Muskoka

Oops. Edited, if you switch "https" to "http" it usually fixes it. Makes sense I guess, still left wondering where that tube goes though... Unless it's just to a general weeping bed.

    Wrenching in Muskoka

Well, here's the sump pit, all cleaned up. Had to clean about 3" of water and muck out. The one big-o tube at the end is open, but three holes on either side of the sump are covered by plastic caps. Seems odd it wouldn't have drained out by now, especially given the drought we had here...

    Scissor Lift

$750 USD, I bought mine for $850 CDN. You still came out just barely ahead. :D Mine was VERY rusty from lifting winter-driven cars for years though, so I had to attack it with wire wheel and re-paint. Also the wheels barely turn they're so gummed up and rusty, so moving it around is a massive...

    Scissor Lift

I assume you mean the lift in general. It doesn't go much higher than that either. And that's exactly what it's good for, chassis and brake work at chest height, easier fluid changes... Anything front or back of the car is much easier now. You can sit under the vehicle on a mechanic's stool...

    Canadian Tire DEALS

You nailed it on the head: perception of savings. I can't go a week without someone coming into my store to buy a tool and going "wow, this is cheaper than Crappy Tire!" Though I'll readily admit my box has plenty of Mastercraft in it. The quality varies.

    Scissor Lift

Interesting, that extra 600 lbs. It otherwise sounds identical to my Rotary in terms of specs. So it lifts that truck no problem? You've gotta be close to the max....

Scissor Lift....pull over or back over?

That's.... an interesting question actually, I don't know. My scissor certainly looks "even" from front to back, and the little arms that slide out, slide out equally in all four directions. I can't say for certain, but I don't see why you couldn't. Of course, you could turn the lift around...

Wall heater coverted to shop heater

If you read the fine print on those sorts of heaters, they all say "never use in an enclosed space" even though they call them "shop heaters." I used one for about a week in my race shop during a cold winter. I even cracked the big door about a foot. Then while proceeding to rivet the...

Who has Flat Black Tool Box? Was going to buy HF 72" but this deal came up.

The flat black NAPA "Radical" series we've been selling hasn't been going over well for just that reason--dust really clings to it. I suppose it depends what you work on in your shop. If it's relatively low dust and clean, there's no reason it can't look great. If you do any sort of body work...

Amish Redneck Shop- Short 2 car

Hey she's small but mighty. Flat concrete surface to work on and a roof over your head. It's a little narrow but that just means you gotta put your storage up higher. Any plans to insulate for the winter? Might have to do on the outside to maximize work space...

    Scissor Lift

As would I, that's kind of what I was worried about. I don't WANT to, I just mean how do I know when I get to that last catch. Yeah, maybe marking it with a bright paint would help.

    Wrenching in Muskoka

Thanks. I have no clue what to do with it. Maybe I'll plant some trees. I dunno that I'll wash cars inside, but it's good to know I can wash the floor easily. Maaaaan it's tougher in Muskoka than you'd think. I sold in London and made a TON of money, which is good, because I then spent it...

    Wrenching in Muskoka

I get conflicting opinions on it. My home inspector (who is properly credentialed) said it's no longer to code, but I also spoke to another contractor who said it's fine as long as you know where it empties. With some more digging, it sounds like it's definitely NOT to code to empty into a...

    Wrenching in Muskoka

Oh, so you mean it's drainage OUT into a weeping bed outside the building, as opposed to weeping tile pouring into IT? That makes a whole lotta sense. I'm gonna have to clean it out and test it. Only been here a few months, certainly beautiful, but how we live in the winter is gonna be the...

    Wrenching in Muskoka

Some further clean up. Ordered up a couple of VIM Tools "Wrench Gripper" holders. Unlike most, they do not "clip" the wrenches in, they just sit nicely in them for easy access, which is exactly what I wanted. Now I just need a properly matched set of combination wrenches before my OCD...
