    Show your new tool arrivals

Picked up this little unit at Home Depot on sale. Gonna give it a shot for taking the rust down on the 'ol Monte, since I won't have my shop compressor for a while yet. We'll see how it goes.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

The joys of used car purchases. Went to fill the washer fluid in the wife's new-to-her 2009 Vibe only to have exactly half the jug puke onto the ground. Reservoir has a completely horizontol crack exactly half way up the container! Flapping like a Canadian mouth. Guess I gotta order one of...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

that's why I've got no lounge equipment in the shop--too tempting! :D

DIY Body Work - Keeping the Shop Clean

Yeah it's a Ryobi, with a little dust cup at the bottom. I'm hoping that that, combined with a shop vac, will keep it down. I'm not sure it's super humid here? But you may have a point. Maybe I can just leave a door half-up and use a big box fan to blow it outward.

DIY Body Work - Keeping the Shop Clean

Like I said, I'm not afraid of time involved in knocking the rust off. I can't afford sandblasting at the moment. It's basically all surface rust--the previous owner had it at a body shop, where the restoration had begun, but then the place went under suddenly, and they left it outside for a...

DIY Body Work - Keeping the Shop Clean

Yeah I'm familiar with the priming process, I'm going to use an etch primer to start off with, then after I'm done with body filler and cleaning up the scratches I'll use epoxy. I've done proper body work in a proper shop, I'm just trying to make do with what I have right now. I have an...

DIY Body Work - Keeping the Shop Clean

So I've done DIY body work in the past. Mixed results but now I actually have a few bucks to spend so I'll be approaching it more carefully. I can't paint the ol' Monte until I get the shop compressor, probably next Spring. Until then, I'm gonna do as much body prep/sanding as I can, and seal...

    Tools from the old world

I've used these before as well, but only on small ID pipe. I kinda question how well they'd grab something large and rusted. I'd be willing to bet they don't have the clamping force.

    Scissor Lift

Semi-related: for those of you who've used one a bunch, is there an obvious way to tell when it's reached max height? I don't think I've gotten there yet (I have a flourescent light I need to hang higher), but does it simply peter out or does it hit a stop?

Fantastic, thanks. I even have a Sunex supplier, I'll have to see if he has those.

    Scissor Lift

The Rotary one, sold over the counter at my store, is nearly $3000 CDN. But that's with a Rotary badge on it, which probably accounts for the extra cost.

    Scissor Lift

Now THAT is a great idea. My S10 is so narrow that unless you get it 100000% perfectly centered, the tires drag driving over it. :bounce: Mine's a Rotary. I bought it off a customer of mine, so I have the added bonus of selling my own parts for it, and knowing the Rotary rep if I need tech...

Ah! I think I fixed my image in the OP, too.

    Joel's Tiny 2 Car Garage

Welcome. That's not so bad a work space, you just gotta maximize your storage! I would think cabinets along that far wall up above head height would work wonders for you. Killer Cobra.

    Scissor Lift

Thanks for the responses, and yeah, 6000 lbs is the max, so I think even a modern 1/2 ton truck might be borderline. I hope it lifts my '72 Monte Carlo! With a smallblock I think that's still well under 4000 lbs though. And good point Garett, maybe I could cut down some taller ones.

    Scissor Lift

Ah, but see, that's still a bit short. I mean they'll work, but I'd have to either use blocks of wood on top, or let the car sit 6" or so lower when I work on it. Not the end of the world but I'd love to be able to support it at max height.

Really? that's odd, it loads for me on imgur just fine.... hmm. Now? EDIT: it's this one: http://www.revolutionlift.com/RMR6-6000-Pound-Capacity-Mid-Rise-Lift-P4C9.aspx

    Scissor Lift

Gotta admit, this little guy does a pretty good job. I may still have to go to a small 2-post eventually, but I really think that's gonna limit my workable space. Sitting under this on a mechanic's seat for oil changes is no big deal, and it makes brake and chassis work a sinch. Anybody...
