    1935 Gas Station Resurrection

I was going to post these last night, but for whatever reason Flickr wouldn't cooperate :headscrat. Anyways I met with a reporter from The Perry Chief Tuesday morning for an interview about the mural. I haven't seen the full article yet, but here is the front page preview IMG_20190731_054217 by...

    1935 Gas Station Resurrection

He will be doing a Military tribute piece in a plaza about a block away in honor of a local marine we lost in Afghanistan in 2010. Not really, but I when I started thinking about what to do I wanted a piece that centered around the station attendant. Its such an iconic symbol of service...

    1935 Gas Station Resurrection

Well for once the weather cooperated this week the mural was finished late Friday afternoon. Pictured with it is the artist, Shawn Palek. It gives you a sense of its size. I'm thrilled with it. My whole idea behind this was for a piece that had a vintage billboard advertising feel...

    1935 Gas Station Resurrection

Another quick update on the mural progress. Shawn spent the afternoon working on the dash. Since the shape is very similar to the dash in my 53 we used the gauge cluster in it for inspiration. This pic is in direct sunlight so it really shows off the colors. I'm beyond thrilled with it, he has...

    1935 Gas Station Resurrection

Shawn done the mural layout last night. He projected the image on the wall and traced the outline of the major features with a pencil. Basically its a roadmap of sorts. Channel 5, the ABC station out of Des Moines has expressed interest in doing a story on it. They are suppose come out and film...

It faces due west..so it will get a fair share of direct sunlight. They do seal them when the artwork is complete which is basically a clear coat. We should get a lot of years out of it. As always feel free to follow along on the facebook page or my instagram for the quickest updates and a lot...

    1935 Gas Station Resurrection

The weather has finally decided to cooperate and the work is going to begin on the mural tomorrow. Met with the artist this evening to work out a few details like the sizing and position. The image I went with is from a 1953 Sinclair station calendar. I wanted something that would compliment the...

A bit of a picture overload. I upgraded to a new Nikon DSLR camera and one of the benefits is with a wide lense it captures the office better than I can with my cell phone camera. 20190605_220856 by Joe Unger, on Flickr 20190605_220637 by Joe Unger, on Flickr 20190606_025316 by Joe Unger, on...

Yeah, its a Vendo 83. The first 2 years (46&47) had the aluminum panel across the front. From what little I've read they made the machine from 1946 to 1955.

Pulled the '53 out to rinse the dust off and grabbed a few pics. It's getting closer...still need to bodywork and paint the grill and get the interior back in it. 1935 Gas Station Resurrection

After reading the comments about the historical registry, it only strengthens my belief in small town Iowa. Like I said before pretty much our entire downtown is on the historical registry and I don't see any of the issues mentioned going on here. Buildings are bought, sold and renovated all the...

    1935 Gas Station Resurrection

It shouldn't be an issue. It has a 24 inch diameter, 5 foot deep footer with j bolts embedded in the concrete. Its hard to say, nothing was documented. Its interesting you bring up the national historic registry, about 20 years ago when the hotel and surrounding building were being...
