    Don's 32 X 48 Two Story

Winter of 2022, installed electrical on the exterior walls, insulated and put in a pellet stove. The cabinet came from a school that was being demolished, got it for $50. Still a work in progress as I continue to add storage, move and organize things, in the shop, from the main garage.

    Don's 32 X 48 Two Story

Fast forward to the fall of 2020, did the ground work, installed drainage and poured the foundation for a 30 x 14 ft addition. Spring of 2001, started construction and closed it in. Also installed a steel beam for a trolly and chain fall along with an insulated rubber roof. Did all the work...

What's your favorite way to lift heavy items?

Use a mini excavator to lift things while outside. Inside, a pallet jack is one of the handiest things followed by an engine hoist. The 4 post lift is also handy with it's 9,000 lb capacity.

Best Power Saws for the Price?

My vote is for the Milwaukee Super Sawzall, have had one for many years and it just keeps on chugging. Also having worked in the industrial arena for many years, its the one you see on job sites. Helped a friend do some demo work several years ago. After a few hours, he asked to use one of my...

    cutting thick(ish) steel

Another perspective, good excuse to buy a new tool, especially if you plan to do any amount of metal work. As previously mentioned, I have the Morse Metal Devil circular saw, which may sit for a couple years between uses, but its there when I need it. Also have a 14" Milwaukee cold cut chop...

    cutting thick(ish) steel

I have the 7" Morse Metal Devil saw. It was recommended by some Iron Worker friends who have used the 7" saw on plate up to 1" without any issues, just have to go slow and use the proper blade. As others have said, they run at a different speed than wood working saws. Here is a video of the...

    How to space out payments

For my 48 x 32 two story garage, I set up an account with the local building supply for the materials and just paid the contractor for labor. Also paid the concrete guy directly well as the electrician. The materials were billed monthly and I also got a contractor's discount. This approach...

    Don's 32 X 48 Two Story

Drives, missed your post. Haven't worked in the garage all winter as I have several projects to do in the house. When I get back to the garage, will post the updates. I did post a few lake & snow pictures on the Chair Thread.

Garage mat for snow and slop under car

I make a berm using some 2" conduit and EDM rubber. I got the rubber used from a roofing contractor. Just set it up in the fall and fold up the rubber in the spring.

    Grounding antenna

I would go with the shortest path and put a new rod as close as possible to the mast. Local electrical codes typically cover antenna grounding, you might want to look there if you are not inclined to put in a new rod.

    Poll who has a generator?

Have two generators. Kubota GL 6500s, 2 cyl liquid cooled diesel which burns approximately a half gallon per hour at full load. Honda EU 2000 which run up to 10 hours an a gallon of fuel. Fuel management plan: Run diesel for a couple hours two times per day for recharging refrigerator &...

    Fake surveillance cameras?

A friend got broken into while away. After, he installed motion sensing lights that had built in cameras that were activated with the lights. They come in all price ranges. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=motion+light+with+camera
