    CL etiquette with overpriced items

you can try to be polite on CL, but you have to remember that a lot of the time you're dealing with really ignorant and/or stupid people who lack any type of home training. nothing irritates me more than having to meet someone and then they offer me less than the agreed price. i won't sell...

    Anyone heard of this company?

not to get off topic from the OP's find of a great website, but on the matter of amazon charging sales tax... they have had a warehouse in the DFW area for years. that is why texas said they had a business presence, and therefore wanted to collect unpaid sales taxes. the argument from amazon...

    Configuring a socket set

it was metric. and on the package it said it would work on the etorx size i needed. ultimately, it did not.

    Configuring a socket set

Off topic, but my craftsman universal sockets were absolutely worthless on the only external torx i tried them on. In fact, it slightly stripped the head. Bought a Lisle etorx set and was golden.

"do it best" brand socket set

so, i was trolling for a couple loose sockets to fill a couple gaps in my socket set. i came across and bought an ACE hardware 3/8" drive deep socket set on ebay. i did the "make an offer" a couple times and got it for $15 shipped. i was expecting to get a nice little socket set made by...

First House, First Garage -- 30x28

if you're closing in the port, you might as well open the back wall. then you'll just have one big-a garage and it would still be secure. perhaps close in one of the three garage doors? so only two ports open and one is closed. that would give you some privacy if you wanted it. but still...

advice on starting a tool collection

yea... i thought about the possibility of his drill being C3 after i emailed him. it turns out it is. i'd have to look at the cost of a loose impact driver + the batteries, though. batteries make up so much of the cost of a kit. i'm not sure if it would be worth it. but i'll mention that to...

advice on starting a tool collection

lol... i had to shorten my post b/c it was too long. so here's the rest.... i don't think he's trying to spend much at all right now. so i didn't suggest anything very expensive. i think we're on the same page for pretty much everything.

advice on starting a tool collection

first of all, thanks for the input... i know it's a long email and somewhat scattered. you'll have to take my word for it that he's a smart kid, he can make sense of it. plus he's probably used to it as well. i give detailed answers to questions. yes i'll post his response in a bit. i...

advice on starting a tool collection

i sent this email to my "little" cousin who has recently taken an interest in acquiring a tool set. he's about to graduate college and i doubt he's ever turned a ratchet in his life. so i sent this excessively long email to him on the subject. i'd love to hear your input. i realize i...

    Name that ratchet manufacturer

Ahhhh... Yes plomb!! I honestly had never heard of them before joining here. However, that makes sense. I will have to be on the lookout for any more of them. my grandfather was a crew leader (maybe not the right term) add a mechanic on b-17s in wwii. he was in Europe for several years...

    Name that ratchet manufacturer

I have seen a few similar threads so i get the impression done of you guys enjoy them... I found these two ratchets in my grandfather's old tool box. They are 1/4" & 1/2". I'm guessing there's probably a 3/8 around somewhere. I'm curious if anyone had any idea. They could be cheap junk, i...

    best 18-20v cordless drill?

voltage is only about how fast the battery discharges which translates to how much power you can get. the run time is more dependent on the capacity. for example, the makita 18v batteries come in both 1.5 ah and 3.0 ah capacities. they have the same voltage, but th3 3.0 would give longer...

Torque wrench tests, El Cheapo, PI, and Cman beam

trying to avoid the thread derail of the hot brunette... i have 3 harbor freight clickers. and whenever i use them, i like to double check them against my beam torque wrench for at least one bolt. the HF is always accurate from what i can tell. i'm sure there is some variance, but it's not...
