Never said that. Said I wouldn't spend another dime in there. I have a crazy knack for getting burned when I go the cheap route. Not just tools, but just about everything. Just the way it is for me. Some guys have had great luck with their motorcycle jacks. I was thinking about one until a few...

Coal burners, paper mills, refineries, 6010 is allowed. 6010 has its place for sure. 6010 is a pleasure compared to 9% chrome rods.

So true. Learning how to make adjustments while welding is a big deal. Fits are very rarely perfect in the field. Carhart denim shirts, I must have spent a small fortune on them, have to keep the skin covered. One thing that has not been talked about is fitting. I have been fortunate enough...

I had the outside corner of a SS socket fitting crack on me at a nuclear plant. came like that from the supplier. I dint notice it at first but the more heat it got the bigger it got. Told the foreman who got the white hats. We were shut down for 3hrs. They pulled every fitting with the same...

Feed the big wire from the back side on the root pass. That weld will pass a X-ray every time.

Very true Aaron. Rod angle, heat, speed, can be determined by looking at the weld to some degree and corrections can be made from that. Having somebody over your shoulder watching really helps the most during the process. Afterwards, inspect the weld and make the corrections. TIG welding is...

SBerry, big difference. Nothing wrong with hobby welding at all. Weld a fence or something like that. Sooner or later somebody is going ask you to weld something important, happened to me all the time. I don't even have a welder at the house! As for the mig guns, used them one time in one of my...

Best way to learn hobby welding

Being able to weld 2 pieces of metal together and being able to weld to pass tests, are totally different. Ive met people that told me they could weld and have a setup at their house. Go over there and check out their welds and it looks like they used their feet to weld it. sure it will hold but...

Comfort grip vs standard chrome handle ratchets

I have both. When working on most parts of my bike, always soft handle. My bike is blacked out and the soft handle helps not scratching anything. Same thing when working on friends bikes. Anything involving fluids, hard handle. Obviously Im not doing this work for a living.

Good to great weld helmet...older eyes

Pipe liner hood, paid $25 for it. Cut a inch of the top and bottom. Removed the elastic strap from it and used surgical tubing. American Optics Ice blue lens I was a union welder and used that hood every working day for 8yrs, nuclear plants to paper mills. X-Ray welds, hot welds, and whatever...

I was in the welding game for a while, union pipe welder. During that time American Optics lens was the king by a long shot. Not so anymore? I hated with passion auto lenses
