Maybe I'm wrong but as I understand it the metal used in impact sockets is softer to handle the added stress. This is what causes the mushroom effect. All of mine are like this as well.

thats why i chose a community college program rather than a for profit techincal school. 5k for the entire program and my credits transfer into actual college courses ;). snap-on, matco, mac, and sears student discounts included. school and tools already paid for.
