Bonding Neutral in sub panel confirmation

So youve got a neutral issue and the voltage is a little high

Bonding Neutral in sub panel confirmation

an emergency disco (ones required by latest code) was not required by code in 1994 so it is moot

Bonding Neutral in sub panel confirmation

Op said multiple circuits are affected but not all. and only the HVAC is causing this. not any other large 120v load (which he may or may not have) such as disposal, dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, etc. so how could only the HVAC showing a loose neutral issue and not other appliances?

Bonding Neutral in sub panel confirmation

He said its while the AC is running. an air handler doesnt take much power to run the blower motor. all of a few amps. and its happening on multiple circuits so that rules out branch circuits. garbage disposals and dishwashers take more power than an air handler so if it was a loose neutral, the...

Bonding Neutral in sub panel confirmation

a loose neutral WOULD NOT cause lights to get brighter when a 240v load turns on. a 240v load doesnt even use a neutral so the 2 are unrelated.

Bonding Neutral in sub panel confirmation

need to confirm number of conductors in feeder first. if 3-wire, feeder will need to be updated to 4-wire. also need to move grounds/EGCs over to ground bar as well. ground bar(s) may need to be added would be really helpful if OP posted pics of everything otherwise we are just guessing :needpics:

Bonding Neutral in sub panel confirmation

Since there are 3 branch breakers in the "main panel" it would not be an emergency disco...

Bonding Neutral in sub panel confirmation

If the subpanel is in the same structure as the main or feeding panel, then it should NOT have a bonded neutral. If in a detached structure it could have a bonded neutral with some exceptions prior to 2008 code cycle a bonded neutral and a loose or failing neutral would NOT cause the lights to...

New fast EV chargers and three phase power

Apartments are almost always supplied 3Ø 208Y/120 in my state. its easier and cheaper to supply a balanced 3 phase service than single phase

    Voltage callout of 200/1/60

I dont think anyone here has ever argued that motor nameplate ratings are 240 and 480v. motors have always been rated for less voltage than the system voltage. youre mixing up topics

    Voltage callout of 200/1/60

you could run it on a 208Y service. line to line is 208v 1Ø 60hz

    Voltage callout of 200/1/60

guess youve never seen a motor nameplate thats listed for 200/230/460v, 200v being the rating for 208Y service

    Voltage callout of 200/1/60

no. no equipment is ever spec'd to run on a wild leg of a 240D. motors rated to run on 208Y systems will have their voltage listed as 200v or youll see 200/230/460

Adding a "panel" - rerouting ground

why would you share it? the GEC needs to go to the new main service panel. also all those EGCs on the neutral bars need to be moved to a new ground bar(s). make sure the neutral bars are no longer bonded and you will need to run an EGC between the new main and the old main meaning the feeder...

    Service entrance surge suppression

$500 for a cap is insane... about $300 to cover part, labor time and trip is reasonable. they usually only cost about $40-$60 $500 for a surge suppressor may be a little high but i havent priced them out....
