It was old iron so it took 4 f clamps against the corner post to bend the iron and 6 100mm batten screws to hold them. good fun nice clean edge. Oils some great memories of high energy concerts with the crowd signing then running into 6 encores to deal with the energy. not a country that gives...

    Backyard Wardrobe

Having almost completed the largest most complex structure ever seen on this forum, move over concrete underground, it has all actually started to get garage related. The backyard wardrobe aka craft store now known as the studio, has allowed the garage to be emptied of stored items. Progress to...

Big help needed with deteriorating structure...advice needed!

I understand your point of view about dollars for material just not going to happen but lots of free labour yourself ! I am in a similar situation. The starting point is what can you scrounge. Metal is a good DIY solution for a roof, round here it would be span deck or corrugated often available...

Is 32 too old to go to mechanic school?

I am 42 and looking at retraining. I think we have a few times in life where things do not work out and we start again from scratch. Certainly a physical trade but a lot of the hand neck shoulder issues can be dealt with through stretching and massage. Enjoyed the job but not the people I...

Jawhorse - never sure about all the copies. I like the original invented by Triton Tools - Superjaws. Either way with a ton of clamping pressure mine gets used all the time. As does my poor mans copy of a workmate :)

Not the best of weekends, but some progress late in the day Old galvanized iron circa 1970 donated by a friend, mongrel to cut gave the excalibur shears a good workout. The shears fly through modern zincalume, this stuff was a 2 man wrestle. 4 to go

Thanks occupantRJ, it is around here to, this one will be filled with the other half's craft supplies. Another common use for a wardrobe :) Given the era of the house the wardrobes would have been furniture not built in, which is why the two bedrooms are 5500mm x 4200mm (18ftx14ft).

Framing - cypress posts, treated timber. Around here most housing framing timber is radiata pine. Laughingly called structural it bends like a banana. Steel is the best option, but the budget is tight At this point the wardrobe served its next function of being a lighting rod to the whingers...

There comes a time when the projects on this site inspire lurkers to tackle a bit of organisation. Weaving projects together and chasing the aim of multiple uses for all projects; a plan formed. The house is a 2 bedroom 1920's art deco workers cottage (interesting low status deco as opposed to...

    220 outlet - 4 plug to 3 question.

Sorry have an annoying sense of humour, my location is a cryptic puzzle provided by location information and signature line.... Basic difference from memory is, you 120/240v split phase versus us 240v single phase thus giving you 240v across the phase potential, dredging that up could be good...

    220 outlet - 4 plug to 3 question.

electrical theory is fine different countries different systems. curious about 120 v as our supply is all 240v active to neutral appliances are more likely double insulated than earthed. we step up to 415v 3 phase from 240volt 1 phase. round here functional earth is neutral protective earth is...

    220 outlet - 4 plug to 3 question.

not familiar with 120v wiring so I am missing something here. 2 120v actives to give approx 220-240v and a neutral. So I would initially think the 4 pin plug is for an earthed appliance and the three pin for a double insulated appliance ? regardless of 3 or 4 pin your circuit is always active to...
