Get rid of my 3 phase power???

lots of uses aside from the garage ! spa pump, all heat pumps - refrigeration or hvac. 3 phase is more efficient so although initial equipment cost may be higher running costs are lower. I would be finding some good deals on commercial fridges freezers etc and put the 3 phase to good use :)

WOW...T8 bulbs went up in price...

An important question might be what are the specs of the cheap t8s ? Quad phosphur 5000k 4500lumen is the average spec I use. Would hazard a guess that cheap tubes will be rather dull around 2700 lumens :)

    T5 vs T8 strip lighting

lumen output per watt tri-phosphor t8 is more efficient than t5 t5 main advantage is small form factor most marketing for t5 use data for old style t8 tubes for comparison always found the cri of t5 too low to like the light from them :)

    My New York garage/house build

That is amazing. elpedro is right most prefab homes in aus manage to look like demountable prefabs where as yours looks like a house not an oversize caravan with eaves. I would imagine that the process would give a guarantee of quality as well. They just completed a house across the road after...

    Lighting and CLF

The trouble with CFL retrofit globes is that they cram the starter and ballast into the base of the globe and then the globe is used in a fixture that cannot vent the heat resulting in failure. The other issue is that an incandescent radiates light from the base of the bulb spiral CFLs try to...

    Lighting and CLF

CFL stil doesnt last as long as a T8, compare lumen output, cost, longevity and power consumption and a contemporary quadphosphur electronic ballast t8 is a long way ahead of anything but a well engineered LED fixture. my 2c :)

Anyone using LED's in their shops/garages?

I would caution that it is a different technology so avoid replacement bulbs and look to a complete fixture. I have just installed 4 fixtures single led 16w 900lumen and excellent cri around 90 from memory about $100 aud each lifespan of 60000 hrs. each fixture has its own heatsink and...

    Pole Barn Build In Progress!!!

I am with you on the hand digging, its an art. Some people like gym work, but digging a hole is more satisfying and just as effective for physical strength. Although we do seem to dig them just to fill them in again :)

    My Texas Dream Garage

Shopnut I was thinking just the opposite, generally Australia is a lot drier artisan water has a very high mineral content 30000 litres would be a house supply for 5 people for 12 months and 60000 litres desireable for firefighting. All this normally collected from rainwater in rural areas...

    My construction begins.

I have needed a shed for the last twenty years so I reckon just going ahead and building one no matter the time frame is better than not starting. Dry and not raining better get back outside to my shed with the blue ceiling !.........

Scotty's Garage refurbishment - 1700sq/ft of Aussie Mancave

Ute brings back memories first car was a vg valiant ute (actually a plated as a dodge) worked 245 manual with a vastly amusing lsd that would lock everytime the rear suspension unloaded :) Great teaching tool that old ute...... Good to see someone restoring them, although I still prefer sixes

    The Concrete Underground

Years ago my Uncle's brother built a dock in a residential canal estate, local council hadn't implemented any planning permissions for docks so it was cast concrete with diesel storage tanks, water and three phase power............. Changed the rules after that :)

    LED lights

Have been watching the progress of LED lighting and with these products from brightgreen.com they have come of age. Not sure of the equivalent for the US market, but the specs of the lights are amazing. light spread lumen output and colour rendering are well ahead of the game. In the kitchen...

    IR Hammerhead

Thanks for the leads. I am following both up. Electrical I ship from the UK often 30% cheaper even with freight and customs. Wholesalers down here have a lot to learn about being competitive. Great example being a major retailer of canon cameras has started buying from Hong Kong rather than the...

Ingersoll Rand 2015MAX Hammerhead Impact Wrench 3/8" drive. Anybody know of a tool supplier that ships internationally ? Down here they are about $500 more expensive than the US price so the 100 odd dollars for shipping is a moot point.
