let's see your craftsman block grinders

Ok, I'm up to page 31 so far and I'm learning a lot. :bounce: I thought I'd point out that the features that Vintage Machinery identifies as typical of Commercial/Industrial units may also be shared by grinders without these markings. My 1 horse block isn't marked Commercial or Industrial but...

What's the difference between the Commercial-spec units and the standard ones? I've only read the first 20 or so pages of this thread so far and I'm out of the loop.

let's see your craftsman block grinders

I thought I caught a whiff of brimstone when I fired it up. What can I say, Robert Johnson made a deal with the devil down at the crossroads and Black Sabbath sold their souls for rock and roll but I guess I had less lofty aspirations. If I recall the date on the bottom looked like 12/65 but I...

Thanks, it has lots more than twice the power of my 1/2 hp Delta (made in China) and spins forever when you shut it down...

let's see your craftsman block grinders

I just found this thread, I've had my eye out for a block grinder for a while and finally found one this past weekend: I went to what was billed as a "huge tool sale" Saturday morning but when I got there all they had were some yard tools and a couple of tables covered with junk. The seller...

I think those were called Sidewinder ratchets and I vaguely recall a TV infomercial for them 25+ years ago. I'd just started working on cars and wanted one desperately. Guess I didn't miss out on too much.

    I picked these up from a sale yesterday, a Goldenrod, a Rainbow, and a no-name: <a href="http://s1382.photobucket.com/user/Nick7661/media/IMG_0188_zpseiygmban.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1382.photobucket.com/albums/ah270/Nick7661/IMG_0188_zpseiygmban.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo...

Oh, it happened alright: As I mentioned my wife was having a garage sale this morning. I'd promised to stick around and help out and I was true to my word, at least until I heard about a "huge tool sale" a few miles away. I got there right after they opened and the sale was a joke, a few...

My wife is having a garage sale today. The baby clothes, toys, maternity stuff, kitchen gadgets, and pointless knick knacks are selling like hot cakes. The vises, Kennedy chest, canoe, mower, tractor implements, camping gear, etc that I contributed haven't even garnered a second glance from...

    Facebook Swap Sites.

They don't command the prices they once did but $40 bucks is a pretty good deal, especially if you have a use for it. Just watch yer fingers.

NATO 20 liter (5.28 gallon) gas cans

Careful 404, Al Gore won't like you disparagin' him on his internet. :) Anybody have a good solution for a quality replacement spout on the steel Jerry cans? It's my understanding the gummint has outlawed these too and authentic ones sell for big bucks if you can find them. There are lots of...

    First Wilton vise

Wow that's nice work KMScott. It's a shame on that lead screw, I'm running out to lube the one on my Wilton just to make sure that doesn't happen! (Actually mine is plenty oily, I'm just paranoid).

GP, the original Vise Grips didn't have a release lever. I'm not sure when they started adding them.

    Broken garage door spring.

I'm not normally one of those safety nannies and I usually advocate for trying things yourself but I guess garage door springs are my 3rd rail. Back when I bought my first house I had constant trouble with the garage door. It was a peice of junk and was always coming off the track, getting...

Does an untinted can on Ultra Pure White paint need to be shaken.

My dad never throws paint away. He has dregs in cans that he bought at a store that went out of business nearly 30 years ago and he still uses them. Amazingly the paint seems fine, the colors are a bit dated though. He just stirs them up with a big screwdriver and away he goes.
