    altersaddle's 12x24 workshop

Finished off the carry box tonight. I'll post a photo once I have the last ingredient (utility knife). Also purged my screwdriver drawer, and got rid of a bunch of crappy screwdrivers that I never used. Was hoping to get enough room for the nut drivers, but the drivers I kept filled up the...

    altersaddle's 12x24 workshop

This is my workshop thread! My shop is a 12x24 stick framed building on a foundation. Our lot is only 50x100 so space was pretty tight. Inside I have all sorts of stuff, including my Triumph TR4 and a hobby-level wood and metal shop. No dedicated power, insulation, or walls yet - I run...

WILLIAMS Tools of Industry show yours and post any history or company details you can

I've posted a bunch of my Williams stuff, but forgot about this one that I sold on ebay - described as "Williams 968A T-handle wrench. 7/16" 6-point socket. Also stamped with S."

    altersaddle's stuff for sale

Bump! Items less than 7oz would ship via Light Packet to the USA or internationally - about $4-8 USD.

Show your Indestro and Duro-Chrome tools

Here's what I've got. A 1/4" socket set, with the very rare breaker bar cross handle but without the nice metal box. I have a Proto ratchet in this set, and it's one of my favorites. The ratchet handle was in my Grandpa's stuff, the plug is long gone. It feels like it has about 14 teeth!

Are "Gray tools xl series" tool chests still made in Canada?

According to this thread also on garagejournal, the Gray branded tool boxes are now made in Taiwan. However, it also seems like you can now buy the same tool chest directly from GH Metals (or one of their dealers), under the Beach toolbox re-launch. I am trying to get a B109RB / B211RB combo...

Let's See Your Vintage Table Saws!

With 3/4 HP you should have enough power to use a 9" blade. I wouldn't use a 10" blade with that - I have a 10" saw with a 1HP motor and it's working really hard to cut 2" thick hardwood. I had a smaller saw before - 1/2 HP, 8" blade, I ran 7-1/4" skilsaw blades for almost everything.

ATARI pinball mch. How to restore paint

A '70s electronic pinball is worth anywhere from $300 to $2000 (and up) depending on the game. I'd guess that a perfect paint restoration would up the value by about $50-100. It tends to be less important than what the game actually is. Unless the paint is flaking and causing issues with game...

Small wood shop layout ideas needed....

I have a 12x24 shop, currently mostly full of a Triumph TR4. Right now it is dual-purpose metal and wood shop. In my limited space, I have a small table saw, tiny drill press, wood lathe, and chop saw. A band saw (12") is in the wings. I would love to have a router table, jointer, and...

ATARI pinball mch. How to restore paint

Some machines have mylar rings around the pop bumpers to reduce the damage caused by the bumper popping the ball. You may want to look into those. My machine has non-adhesive rings around the three bumpers. It's more important where you have two bumpers facing each other - they can really get...

A creative take on the French Cleat system.

You could also attach two cleats to the top of a Workmate. Slide the tool on and then open the jaws to snug it down.

    Show Your Williams

I did make it myself. "Build" (paint) thread is here. I'm still looking for a three bar 13/16", and to replace some of the mismatched / off brand ones with the three bar style.

    Williams superrench NOS.

That's a 6. The XOE-622 is a 6 point 11/16 combination wrench. The equivalent 12 point wrench is the 1165. The model numbers generally go sequentially up as the sizes get bigger. Sometimes there is an A for an intermediate size (1167A is 13/16) Stubby wrenches also get a different moniker.

All I've got. I had the sockets listed for sale in the classifieds but now I think I'll keep them and build up a set of 12pt with them instead.

Cheapest place to buy individual sockets

The cheapest place around here is the flea market. After that, thrift stores and maybe pawn shops. I've had the best luck with the Re-Store. However, these places stock tools based on what people donate / sell, so you'll only find the commonly used sizes in abundance. The extreme ends of the...

    Wood Lathe

Definitely go down and see if you can get some lessons. Your neighbor may also have an old lathe, or know of one, that you could buy. I have an old Rockwell / Beaver cast iron lathe, they show up used for $200 or less sometimes (usually higher). It needs a bit more space (48" long) but it can...

    Williams superrench NOS.

When I was fabricating my own combo wrench board I used the Williams catalog in the linked thread for reference. It also has a picture of the populated 3/4" drive socket board - I took a snippet out. What I'd like to know is how to describe the various finishes of the Superrench line - I'm...

Double Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw's

If you're just doing trim, why get the sliding saw? I've got an older 10" Craftsman chop saw that can handle a 2x6 (barely). Without the slide, it's basically one less thing to go wrong. I've also got a regular handheld 7 1/4" circular saw for jobs that won't work in the chop saw. When...

    altersaddle's stuff wanted

Bump! I got some older Superrenches at the flea, I'd like to trade them for the slightly newer style that matches the rest of my board.

Bicycle Tools - What's it take?

Here's my cycling tool board: Instead of a third hand I have a cable stretcher tool. The dent pusher, headset press, and "stubborn lock ring remover" are shop-made. Nails along the bottom had metric combo wrenches. Y-shaped allen and socket wrenches are super handy. I haven't bothered...
