    Canadian Tire Maximum Tool Chest

I tried to get a Beach stack and I don't know if they're available any more - the parent company has now closed: http://www.discoversmithsfalls.ca/23-years-g-h-metals-smiths-falls-shuts-manufacturing-plant-smiths-falls/ I don't know if they will sell off the Beach brand, or do some sort of...

Anyone make a roll around floor tool cart?

I replaced the awful MDF "pads" on a cheap folding garage creeper with wooden slats so I could use it without crushing them. It no longer folds, which is an advantage (once it folded up with me on it) You could start with one of those and go to town...

    altersaddle's 12x24 workshop

Last night I moved all my tools from the Craftsman box into the new Proto-Vulcan stack. It sounds like a comic book villian. I'm left with a pile of stuff to sort, and have discovered a few of the drawers in the Vulcan are in rough shape. It has led a working life and some bent drawer slides...

    workbench woes...

Before re-assembling (and when buying more lumber), hold the board up to your eye and sight down it to see if the lumber has a bow or a twist. If it doesn't, carefully check your cuts with a square to see if any are out. You can definitely introduce that kind of twist if one or two cross...

The VINTAGE toolboxes of Garage Journal!

OK, that makes sense. I'll probably put stuff in the top drawer that I need the most (pencil, notebook) so that it'll normally be opened first. Is there anywhere online I could get replacement drawer slides, or should I contact my friendly local sheet metal fab company?

The VINTAGE toolboxes of Garage Journal!

A few weeks ago, I tried to grab a vintage Mac / Craftsman 27" wide stack to replace my homeowner grade Craftsman (6-drawer 27" chest, 8-drawer top box). It was a good deal and I missed out. Should have called faster. I was bummed so I decided to try to get the equivalent box brand new...

    workbench woes...

Buying dimension lumber for furniture projects is always a bit of a gamble. A lot of the wood will have some moisture in it when it's in the store and on the rack, and it will dry out when you move it inside. Leaving it outside and letting it get wet won't change the nature of the wood that...

    altersaddle's 12x24 workshop

Thanks! Someday it will be a really nice driveable car, and not just a potentially nice car! I got home today. The slides on the bottom box were just sticky, nothing wrong (so far) but I think the lock bar is messed up. The drawers only open when the top drawer is open, so I'm going to pop...

Do SPG International toolboxes go on sale at Costco in Canada?

The lack of stock is a very good point. The only time I've seen a discount at Costco is for old stock or for promotions. Our local Costco only stocks the Kirkland and Homak tool boxes, which look OK but were not to my liking.

Got the roll cab. It needs more cleanup and a bit of work on the slides (and a drawer pull) but it should last another lifetime. It is a Vulcan (Williams' truck brand) badged MB-355 made by the Metal Box & Cab't Corp of Chicago. 7 drawers and about 150 pounds. Wheels are made in Indiana!

Lots of Condensation in New Insulated Garage

I had condensation in my workshop while the concrete pad cured. Not a lot, but enough to put surface rust on some old iron. It's not as bad now. Looking back, it might also have been extra moisture in the lumber too like larry_g says.

    Jack & Heintz belt sander

You can get a brand new belt sander from Lee Valley for $100 (no motor). http://www.leevalley.com/en/wood/page.aspx?p=44884&cat=1,43072 I would say $40-50 is a fair price for that, more if you want it bad!

Do SPG International toolboxes go on sale at Costco in Canada?

Welcome to Garage Journal! I considered the SPG International combo (right now listed as a Hot Buy on Costco.ca) but ended up picking up a set of used boxes for slightly less than what the combo would have cost. I don't think it's likely that you will get a better price from Costco until they...

    altersaddle's 12x24 workshop

Didn't get to spend any time in the shop tonight, was out all evening driving... to get this! More photos next week - I still need to pick up a new-to-me roller cab to go under it. It's massive.

let's see your craftsman block grinders

Back in college I had a professor who was pretty enthusiatic about fonts (aka typefaces). There are signature characters that make them unique. This one has a round G, angular R, diagonal slash, angled M and W, and round 3. Also, Futura is an old design, so it's a likely candidate for a...

    altersaddle's 12x24 workshop

This is the full kit for the in-law gift: The storage locker auction was interesting, nothing I wanted came up though. The only tools were the remains of a tiling business (tile cutter, drill press, lots of grout). Everything else was forgotten bric-a-brac of little value, although some of...
