    Craigslist Search Engine

I use "Craigslist Notification" on my android phone. You can have it check multiple locations at one time, it saves searches and notifies you when a saved search has a result. For each positive result of a search, it shows the title of the listing and a thumbnail picture. The thumbnail...

    Anybody remember these?

Yeah, Sears has something like these right now. There is a small difference though. The current version has a little spring loaded tooth.

Craftsman vs. Harbor Freight Plastic Socket Rail

*Groan* I wish I would have seen this thread last week. I've wanted some socket organizers for a while and looked at the Harbor Freight stuff. The Harbor Freight workers seem to take it pretty personally if you open a box to look at something - so I didn't get a good look at these. I didn't...

Whats your project for today in your home garage?

Adding LED lighting under my workbench top so the drawers will have lights. Then I might paint some parts for my table saw redo and watch some of the Olympics. The women's volleyball (US vs. Turkey) has been a great match so far today.

let's see your craftsman block grinders

I've got this one: I'm still searching for one of the gold/bronze colored ones from the mid 50's. I haven't used the one I have now (yet). As someone else said, "It's too pretty." Here's the story on mine: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=153782

Multiple layers of paint on my old vise, aircraft stripper safe?

I used paint stripper on an swap meet vise. It worked great. The bare cast iron flash rusts in a heart beat after rinsing the stripper off. I used a stainless steel brush on the rust, then primed it with rustoleum red primer for heavily rusted metals.

    Ok... how'd I do?

Thanks! I guess it's time to find some good Garage Journal advice on air tools...

    Ok... how'd I do?

I've been looking on Craigslist for a looooong time for an 25ish gallon air compressor. I even posted about a used oil-less Craftsman Pro compressor a few weeks ago for $200. It fit my needs and fit my price range. My enthusiasm cooled when I asked about it here... so I let it pass. (I later...

From Nitrile to Latex Gloves I go!

As my screen name suggests - I do hazardous materials work. I wear nitrile gloves all the time. And, I'm in the Phoenix area so I'd like to think I know about sweat in a glove. If I'm going to be wearing nitrile gloves for anything more than a couple of mintues, I wear cotton liners under the...

    Badly rusted table saw

I suggest giving "Naval Jelly" a try. It's got Phosphoric Acid in it. The phosphoric acid turns the rust into a black oxide. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naval_jelly From the above link: Rust removal Phosphoric acid may be used as a "rust converter", by direct application to rusted iron...

    opinions on this welder.

X2 for what 78Bird said here. You really should consider a Miller 211 or another dual voltage welder. It's half the price of the Snappy you're considering and can work with 110v or 220v. You'll be able to weld at your house with 110v or anyplace with 110v, like your backyard, a buddy's house...

Craftsman 8 inch table saw refurb

I saw this on Craigslist and I had to have it. At first I only wanted it for the 4 new 8 inch blades and the Craftsman motor - but it's so tiny! How can I not find room for this little saw?? As Gort said above, these little tilt-table saws are cute. (Something I thought I'd never say about a...

    Craftsman drill press bandwagon, +1

The drill press finaly made it out to my garage. And, it's sporting a "new" accessory. When I was cleaning up the drill press I noticed a couple of small (and one large) gouge on the column. I'm sure the gouges are from stuff catching and spinning on the drill bits = hitting and gouging the...

35 gallon drum for parts washer?

SafetyKleen? Is this for a home shop or business? If you're a business then the company that takes your full drums should be able to supply empties. You're looking for a 30 gallon recon drum (recon = reconditioned). Recon drums are heavier/thicker/stronger because they are supposed to be...

    Most Used Socket

At work, 15/16" beryllium socket and 1/2" drive beryllium ratchet. And a beryllium adjustable wrench set to 15/16". btw- beryllium tools ****. The '55 chevy gets 1/2" and 9/16" deep sockets. My '95 Yukon and '03 Denali... I don't know. (I don't have to work on them enough to know.) Maybe...

    Great sears customer service!

I would say that my experience was different as someone that worked there. At first, I did all of my exchanges by the book. The longer you work there, you find out that if someone calls a manager then they get what they want... getting a manger involved usually just wasted my time. So, after...

    Great sears customer service!

When I was in college I worked at Sears - not the tool department though. Exchanges are generally up to the clerk. So, if the customer rubbed me the wrong way then the return was by the book. If the customer was cool then they'd get the best deal I could swing them. Also... I worked in the...

Used air compressor, what to look for?

I'm expecting to air up tires, tire rotations... small stuff. I don't think I'll ever port heads or anything like that. Maybe, someday, when I have a bigger shop I'll get a sand blaster = then it will be time to upgrade the compressor.
