    VFD Wiring

I'm about ready to buy a VFD for my Bridgeport that I am refurbishing. For those of you with VFD's in your shop what kind of wire are you running between the VFD and motor / DC control switches? The manuals suggest using shielded VFD cable and shielded control cable. I was planning on just...

feed to garage - conduit size and depth?

I agree 2" conduit. 18-24" deep. If you already have footers poured you will probably have to come into the rear of the subpanel from the outside of the building vs digging under the footer.

    Shop light spacing

Why not 3 rows of 4? 10' center spacing in all directions in a 30x40. 5' to the walls. That's the most geometrically spaced. It also depends on the distribution of the fixtures and what you have in your shop (garage doors, shelves)...

    Pole barn exterior lights

I did what you are talking about. Hole through the rear with the light screwed to a girt. I ran a piece of iron pipe/rigid conduit from the back of the light to a workbox on the inside of the barn. I have EMT conduit to all boxes on the inside.

    Another shop wiring question

They only sell black on the big wires. Just buy green white and red electrical tape. Mark both ends well before the pull. I fished my pull string through one section of conduit at a time as I assembled it. The hardest part was keeping 4, 150ft rolls of wire from tangling as it was pulled. I ran...

Heater Placement Question Installer Is Coming Tomorrow!

I put two of these with the wall controller in my 40x48x14. You couldn't even feel the furnace until they were turned on. I highly recommend ceiling fans... https://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200436482_200436482

Wiring a garage with a tall ceiling

Buy or rent 2 sections of 6' roll around scaffolding for work high on the walls and ceiling. This is what I did for my 14' ceiling. One section and a short step ladder would also work but not be as safe. Much easier and safer than a 8' step ladder...

Air Compressor Plumbing and Wiring help

Not really but I also have an 80 gallon tank and an aftercooler. This is also why there are drain valves at all my drops, to collect moisture. If I were painting, I would add an extra filtering setup at that drop. For air tools, I wouldn't worry too much about it. I used to paint tractors and...

Air Compressor Plumbing and Wiring help

Check out post #22, 26 and 27 on my build https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=390284 I ran 3/4" maxline throughout the shop. I bought a hydraulic hose from TSC to jump from the compressor to the wall, then go into a 5' section of iron pipe before going to the filter, then to...

Surface Mount T8 Fixtures on Metal Liner Ceiling?

I'm assuming the ribs run perpendicular to the trusses. Are you trying to set the lights parallel or perpendicular to the ribs? If parallel to ribs I would think about Unistrut to span the gap between trusses. If perpendicular to the ribs and setting on the trusses I would try to space it off...

    40x48x14 Farm Shop

With everything on the shop being "finished" I have finally been able to start on some other projects. The first is rebuilding my Bridgeport. Also, here is a puppy picture from Thanksgiving for your viewing pleasure. Currently, I am trying to investigate the possibility of tapping into the...

    40x48x14 Farm Shop

Well a lot has happened since the beginning of October. There will always be small projects but the shop is officially "done". First, the shop sink was officially hooked up to the waterline we ran from the house this summer. We also installed the furnace with A/C coils for next summer. It is...

    2x4 shelves

Deck screws are fine. I prefer the ones with torx heads. 2.5-3" long. Here is what I did.

I put 19 (1 missing over office) in my 40x48x14. They have been awesome! Check out my build thread for color pictures. https://www.lightup.com/2ft-led-linear-high-bay-80-watt-200w-equiv-dimmable-10400-lumens-lumegen.html

    40x48x14 Farm Shop

Officially done with the big stuff! Got all of my outlet covers on. The last welder outlet wired and lastly got the rapid air system in. After figuring out the best way to torque down the fittings and straighten the tube it went fairly fast. As I said before the straightener they sell was...

Running Ethernet into a Pole Barn

Here is what I ended up with. I had to enlarge the hole in the plywood to cut the pvc off. This didn't end up pretty and my hole was too big to be covered by the wall plate. I then mounted the wall plate to the old work box cover and essentially made an access port.

Running Ethernet into a Pole Barn

Here is a picture of what I have. You can see the work box just to the left of the desk. When I designed the office I assumed the chair opening in the desk was open... It is not... It is a pole barn with 2x4 girts, followed by 5/8 OSB and finished with 3/8 plywood in the office. So I do have...

Running Ethernet into a Pole Barn

Stuart, I was mostly wanting the work box to have some extra slack for expansion (200' run) and to have enough CAT 6 pulled out of the conduit to ensure it wouldn't fall down where I couldn't reach it. Maybe my fears are a little unnecessary?
