Yeah, it is really a shame because the rest of the vise if near perfect.

    Vise repair, helicoil?

I just recently picked up a wilton 940. :willy_nil Somewhere in its past someone added extra large smooth jaws and for some reason they had to enlarged the holes on the stationary jaw only. In the process they also punched all the way through to the otherside. I would like to put some...

Vise Score - Athol CL Find!

Yeah, I probably called right after he posted it but didn't really have the time to go out there. I am in the east valley and if I remember right he was in the west valley. He told me the same thing that is started with "A" and I was sure it was an Athol too. I never knew the model number...

good bench vise for under $100

Where are you at? If you are anywhere near me I have a few I am looking to get rid of. I went a little crazy and bought too many...

    Wilton C2 or 1780

thanks for the suggestion Autopts. Would you paint this vise before you sell it. As you can see it has no damage and perfect jaws...just a little surface rust where the paint has flaked off. What would be a good price to ask? Maybe with my profits I can buy new jaws for my C2!

    Wilton C2 or 1780

Do you think there is any difference in quality? I will try and post a side by side shot later.

Here are a couple pics of the 1780. It really is a big vise!

    Wilton C2 or 1780

I recently picked up a wilton 1780 in very nice condition for a great price. The problem is I already have a C2 that I have mounted to the bench and I only have room for one big vise. The C2 is in good condition but not near as nice as the 1780. They both seem comparable in weight but...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

I have a 505 that has T-jaws, I was also under the impression they were older than that. Does anyone know what year they switched to the screw on type jaws?

Parker Vise (Union mfg. company, New Britain CT) Anyone know about this?

Autopts, so when did they go away from the curved jaws?

Parker Vise (Union mfg. company, New Britain CT) Anyone know about this?

That's it! thanks. I am a little confused though. Autopts said that was one of the later ones but it still had the curved jaws. The one I am looking at has your standard rectangular jaws that are held in by screws. I just assumed these were later models. I really like the curved jaws, but...

    Parker/ Union Bench Vise

I just found a 4.5" union vise just like this with the shaking hands logo and no mention of "Parker". What does the collar on yours look like? The one I am looking at has a square collar. I thought maybe it could be a replacement?

Parker Vise (Union mfg. company, New Britain CT) Anyone know about this?

great looking vise! I have my eye on a 4.5" union vise for $50. It is the newer one with the shaking hands logo. The collar on it seems to be just a square piece of steel. Does this seem right?

how much should I pay...for this vise

I intend to use it, not sale it. I want one outside. I do like to buy better quality if I can get a good price. The cool factor does play a small role too in my decisions. Are columbians of this vintage not considered to be of the best quality? I guess since they are more common they...

how much should I pay...for this vise

I'm sorry... It is not supposed to have a base, it is the 500 series columbian. I didn't know if the fact is had 5" jaws that it would be worth more. It seems 4" or 4.5" vises are a lot more common then 5" vises.

how much should I pay...for this vise

...for a columbian 5" vise WITHOUT a swivel base? It is in real good shape with the old style T-jaws but a little surface rust. However it is new enough that it does not say cleveland ohio, just "made in USA". I think I could get it for a hundred bucks but I read here that you should only pay...

    Wilton C2 - pipe jaws

Yeah, I like it. It is a little overkill for my purposes but it makes me smile everytime I see it! I thought about flipping the jaws but there is too much welding shlag on them. What would be the best way to level the top of the jaws. Sanding? What sand paper and what type of sander? Or...

    Wilton C2 - pipe jaws

Well I cleaned up the vise and now I can see a lot of the orignal paint. I think the vise is looking good. I don't think I will repaint it as it will be my main user. Here is a pic. Now I am just waiting for the pipe jaws to come in!!
