    Roofing costs ridiculous?

That would be my BIGGEST concern. You are going to be responsible for any injuries. One of em falls off the roof and you get sued. Some more unscrupulous types might even plan to get injured.

    slab costs 2022

I realize inflation is way up. I am planning to get a concrete slab put in to park on and am getting some really high prices....Like CAN$35/square foot including everything. For a 20x20 slab. What are you guys seeing around you ?Construction is going nutz in my area I guess guys can charge what...

    Old welders

Be careful. Older AC TIG machines like that with HighFreq, May use some real hard to find high voltage Capacitors in the HF generation. Typically these caps deteriorate with age.

    "Portable" steel building

The suggestion that it doesnt need a permit interests me, I guess the City might have something to say about that. Has anyone had any City hassles from one of these ?

    "Portable" steel building

Has anyone got experience with this type of structure ? https://jawportablebuildings.com/ They use the term "portable" everywhere. I think this is to avoid permit issues. You can start out with a simple carport type structure but then close it in. I guess its 'portable' in the sense you could...

    My Snap On story

I watched a Jay Leno garage show. It was about an early 70's Mercedes he was restoring if I recall. Leno goes on about how Mercedes will sell parts for the car new still. Even if they have to build it. Now, he didn't mention price, but it shows the Pride a company can have.

    Rude JCCAYER email reply

Oh man I just found this thread by accident.... Looks like my current situation is gonna ****. Oddly I have ordered from JCCayer in the past and got the product as expected. But now it looks like I am going to lose out on the Lincoln welder rebate..... There goes $575.....

My lift-ready garage planning in the city

Thanks for the advice , guys. I sent my rough renderings to a couple of truss mfgr but no reply. This is becoming a frustrating experience. The construction industry is going full steam in my area building 50+ storey condos in every direction you look. I get the feeling I'm a very small fish in...

My lift-ready garage planning in the city

Not sure if its clear on my (poor) rendering but I plan to have a 12 wide 10 high door on the gable end. I wanted that height so I can put a boat, RV whatever in there. Also plan on some shelves at the 8 ish foot level to go around the far end for storing my impressive collection of junk Thanks...

My lift-ready garage planning in the city

This is the basic shape of the truss/roof outline as I see it. It seems a little thin on the long side, where is needs to be strongest. I'll see if I can get any advice from some local truss mfgrs.

My lift-ready garage planning in the city

Thanks BadIdea, I did but it looks they are usually used with a steeper roof pitch. I am already at a low 4/12. Im not sure how the bottom chord would work out. If it would be far enough apart from the top to be effective (strong). I cant seem to find any designs where one side (where it meets...

My lift-ready garage planning in the city

But now I am wondering if there is a way to get a bit more space (width). Something sorta like this (22 wide). But not sure how the trusses would look like to still get the height over the lift area (which would be centered under the peak).

My lift-ready garage planning in the city

So this is what I originally envisioned. 16 wide, 32 long, 15 feet to the peak, 4/12 slope, Conventional flat bottom trusses with 12 feet under.

My lift-ready garage planning in the city

Yes, I have seen a few builds from back east where its much colder and they have used thickened edge. On the wet coast here, winter is mostly rain and above freezing temps. There may be a week here and there where its slightly below freezing. Rarely below -7C/20F. I am not planning on heating...

My lift-ready garage planning in the city

Hello, I am in the planning stage of a garage on our lot. I work on hot rod type cars a lot and I plan to have a lift at some point, And the high ceiling to accomodate it. I believe a 12 foot under rafters height is what I need. I am in the big city on the west coast of Canada. Building zone...
